MG Motor India announced their partnership with JSW earlier this year. During this announcement, the manufacturer also promised to introduce new models in India as part of their expansion plans. They had promised to launch one new car every three to six months. It looks like they have started working on implementing their new strategy. According to Autocar India, MG Motor India has confirmed that they have approvals for five new models for the Indian market.

Rajeev Chaba, CEO Emeritus at MG Motor India, confirmed this and told the publication that the new models would be launched in the market by the end of 2025. Rajeev Chaba said, “One of the biggest priorities of the joint venture was to get new products. I am happy to say we’ve got five new cars approved for launch in India.

Three of these will be mass-market models, while the other two will be premium offerings. JSW has really been involved in terms of pushing the management for approval of new products and also expanding the capacity of the plant. These will arrive from this festive season to the end of next year.”

Upcoming MG Cars

The first mass-market MG product that Mr. Chaba is speaking about is the Cloud EV. The upcoming crossover electric vehicle from MG has been spotted testing in India several times. The electric vehicle gets a crossover-like exterior design. The Cloud EV is expected to be launched in the Indian market around September-October.

It is based on the Wuling Cloud EV, sold in Indonesia. Recently, MG stated that they will price the Cloud EV quite competitively, and it is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh.

The MG Cloud EV is offered with a 50.6 kWh battery pack internationally. The electric motor generates 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. The Cloud EV is expected to have a driving range of 460 km. A smaller 37.9 kWh battery pack option is also available, with a 360 km driving range.

Wuling Binguo

The second product expected to be launched in India is the Bingo hatchback. MG has even filed a design patent for this hatchback in India. This is also going to be an EV. The 5-door EV is based on the same platform as the Comet and the upcoming Cloud EV. The Bingo EV is expected to get a 31.9 kWh battery pack with a claimed driving range of 333 km.

Wuling Starlight S

The third product to be launched in India is expected to be a brand new D-segment SUV. The upcoming SUV is expected to be positioned alongside the current flagship Gloster. Other than EVs, MG also has an eye on plug-in hybrids, and there are reports that the upcoming D-SUV from MG might be a PHEV. An all-electric version of the SUV might also be offered. It is expected to be based on the Wuling Starlight S, which is currently on sale in China.

Other than these mass-market models, MG is also planning to introduce two premium models in India. MG plans to sell these premium vehicles through a dedicated premium outlet, which they plan to set up in the future. At the moment, there is no clarity on what these premium models from MG are going to be.

There is a possibility that the MG Cyberster, which was showcased by the brand earlier this year, might be among them. The 2-door electric sports car grabbed a lot of attention when it was showcased in India. The other premium vehicle that MG is likely to launch in India is the R7 coupe SUV. This is also an electric vehicle, which comes with a driving range of around 600 km.
