MG Motor India is weeks away from launching the 50 kWh version of the Windsor EV in India. The carmaker has already confirmed the product and we now have the first spy shots of what's to be expected! MG has lately been testing the Windsor 50 kWh extensively, and one of our readers has now managed to capture a picture of the Windsor 50 kWh.

The person who sent this to us confirms that the capture is from Gurugram. The vehicle wears proper camouflage and very few details can be deciphered. The Camo sleeve seems to have 'PRO' branding on it. The 50 kWh version could thus be called 'Windsor Pro' upon launch. JSW MG Motor India has yet to confirm this officially.

MG Windsor Pro 50 kWh: What To Expect?

MG Motor India delivered a hit with the Windsor. The electric CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle), despite its 38 kWh battery pack, rose to acceptance instantly. The Pro version will add a bigger battery pack and more features, making it a more rounded package altogether. The manufacturer hasn't revealed the complete list of changes/ upgrades. However, we expect the new Windsor to get features like V2L ability and ADAS.

The most significant upgrade will obviously be the battery pack. The 38 kWh unit on the outgoing Windsor EV is claimed to deliver a range of about 331 kilometres per charge. The 50 kWh version will have a much higher range of 461 km! This will indeed be a significant improvement in terms of real-life usability. Users of the Windsor Pro will be able to comfortably do long highway trips and inter-city commutes.

The new battery pack could likely come from the outgoing ZS EV. The India-spec ZS uses a 50.3 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack (with LFP cells) and a 176 hp electric motor.

The current Windsor, in comparison, has a smaller 136 bhp, 200 Nm motor. Whether MG brings this more powerful motor to the Windsor remains to be seen.

The Windsor EV is built on MG’s Pure Electric platform. This architecture supports different battery sizes and body types. So, adding a bigger battery doesn’t require major design changes to be made. Interestingly, the 50 kWh version is already sold in markets like Indonesia under the name Wuling Cloud EV. The decision to launch the smaller battery version first in India was likely made to keep the entry-prices competitive.

Faster Charging With Bigger Battery

Charging speed is also getting an upgrade on the Windsor Pro. The new 50.3 kWh unit will be able to charge from 0 to 80 percent in just 46 minutes using a 50 kW DC fast charger. A full charge with a regular AC charger may take up to 16 hours. In comparison, the current 38 kWh version takes around 55 minutes for 0 to 80 per cent with DC fast charging and about 6.5 to 7.4 hours with AC charging.

Could Get More Expensive

Currently, the Windsor EV is priced between ₹14 lakh and ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom). The larger battery version is expected to cost around ₹1 to ₹1.5 lakh more. MG is also likely to continue offering the Battery-as-a-Subscription (BaaS) model, making ownership more flexible for buyers. It’s not yet clear if the new battery will be available across all existing variants or only on select trims.

Windsor Boosting MG’s Market Share

The Windsor EV has played a key role in MG’s rapid rise in India’s electric vehicle segment. Production numbers show how strong the Windsor’s performance has been. Within just three months of launch, MG sold 10,000 units. In a single month, 3,277 units were dispatched. It now accounts for nearly half of MG’s total car sales in India.

The launch of Windsor Pro will only add to the model's popularity by making it even more appealing. MG is clearly aiming to close the gap with Tata Motors and solidify its position as a major player in the Indian EV market.
