MG Windsor EV: High Altitude Testing Video Released Before Electric Crossover’s Launch

MG in India is preparing for its first launch of the year 2024. Last week, MG released a video revealing the official name of its upcoming EV. It will be officially called Windsor EV, and several videos and images of the Windsor EV have been seen online. It looks like MG is now inching towards the launch of the SUV. They have released a new video showing the MG Windsor EV being tested in the Himalayas.
The video has been shared by Morris Garages India on their YouTube channel. In this video, we see the MG Windsor being tested in Ladakh. They test the upcoming Windsor EV crossover, or CUV as MG likes to call it, on extreme motorable passes and terrains. We then see a heavily camouflaged MG Windsor EV being driven on the road.
MG even tested the Windsor EV on Chang La Pass, which is 17,688 feet high. They tested the vehicle in extremely cold weather conditions as well as on rough terrains. They also took the EV to Wari La Pass at 17,429 feet. From the images that have surfaced online, we now know how the upcoming MG Windsor EV will look.
It has a very curvy design, resembling many MPVs in the international market. However, MG is calling it a crossover or CUV, so we’ll be calling the Windsor that too. In a previous video, we saw an MG Comet-like steering wheel, along with a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system.
The MG Cloud EV is not a brand-new product built from scratch. It is based on the Wuling Cloud EV, sold in Indonesia. The MG Cloud EV is offered with a 50.6 kWh battery pack internationally. The electric motor generates 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. The Cloud EV is expected to have a driving range of 460 km. A smaller 37.9 kWh battery pack option is also available, with a 360 km driving range.
MG confirmed that it will price the Cloud EV quite competitively, and it is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh. The crossover from MG Comet will compete with the likes of Nexon EV in the segment, as the MG ZS EV is more expensive than the Nexon EV. The MG Cloud is expected to be launched in the Indian market by September or October.
MG has now partnered with Jio and will be offering connected car features in all its products. MG calls it the Innovative Connectivity Platform, and the Windsor EV will be the first product to feature it.
MG has plans to expand its lineup in the Indian market. In a recent interview, Rajeev Chaba, Managing Director of JSW MG Group, confirmed the same. Other than the Windsor EV, the British car manufacturer is expected to launch the Bingo EV hatchback.
The third product is expected to be a brand-new D-segment SUV. The upcoming SUV is expected to be positioned alongside the current flagship Gloster. The D-segment SUV might come in as a PHEV. Also, MG has plans to introduce updated versions of the MG Hector, Astor, and Gloster in the market.
