MG Windsor EV Pricing Details

If you are one of those interested buyers looking to add the MG Windsor EV to your garage, here are the details of its pricing. MG is offering the Windsor EV for purchase in two ways. The first is that you can pay Rs 9.99 lakh for the car. The catch with this is that you have to pay Rs 3.5 per km as battery rental to the brand.

This new program offered by MG is called the BaaS or Battery as a Service program. Under this program, you do not have to pay the entire amount of the battery pack, which reduces the cost significantly. MG is also offering a lifetime free warranty on its battery (only to the first owner).

Apart from this, the first owner will also get one year of free charging at public chargers. Additionally, under this program, MG is offering an assured buyback of 60 percent after 3 years or 45,000 km.

Now, if you are one of those buyers who do not want to pay separately for the battery and car, MG is offering the Windsor EV at a starting price of Rs 13.5 lakh.

This electric CUV comes in three variants, namely Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. The prices for the Exclusive and Essence variants are Rs 14.5 lakh and Rs 15.5 lakh, respectively.

Will the Windsor EV Become the Best-Selling EV in India?

With this massive achievement of receiving 15,176 bookings, many believe that the MG Windsor EV can become the top-selling EV in India. Experts believe that it could overtake the long-time reigning champion, the Tata Nexon EV. Whether this becomes reality or not, we will have to wait until the deliveries of the Windsor EV commence in India.

Falling EV Sales

Although the Windsor EV has given the EV segment a pleasant surprise with these record bookings, it should be noted that overall sales of EVs have been consistently falling in India. Last month, in September, the total EV car sales were just 5,733 units.

This sales figure represents a significant 9 percent fall in EV sales on a year-on-year basis. Back in September of last year, the total EV sales stood at 6,298 units. Most likely, these sales will continue to fall as the government of India has withdrawn its FAME II scheme, which was responsible for a lot of EV sales in the country.

Other reasons behind the falling EV sales are the high initial cost of electric cars and range anxiety. People who own EVs with smaller battery packs suffer the most from range anxiety. Also, another major reason behind the slowing of EV sales is the lack of charging infrastructure across the country.
