MG Windsor EV: Big, Exciting New Update Coming!

MG Motor India has been scaling its EV market share with its strong portfolio of electric vehicle (EV) models. The Windsor has had huge acceptance among Indian buyers. Over the past few months, we have seen it sell in huge numbers often surpassing the big names in the segment. As we look at wholesale dispatch numbers from February 2025, we see a 26% drop in Windsor volumes and there's a solid reason for it- MG will soon launch a 50 KWh version of it. This is just one part of the story.
The second of course is the fact that MG Motor is reconfiguring its Halol factory to meet rising demand for the Windsor. This reconfiguration is another reason why Windsor dispatches have fallen despite strong demand for the electric crossover utility vehicle. By April, once the new 50 kWH version comes in, and the factory reconfiguration is done, expect Windsor sales to hit fresh peaks.
Morris Garages posted sales of 4,002 units in February 2025 and Windsor constituted 61 per cent of this. 2,431 Windsor EVs were sold during the month. In January, 3,277 units of Windsor EV were sold. This indicates a month-on-month fall of 26% (or 846 units). MG's net sales fell by 10 per cent on a month-on-month basis.
The downtrend in Windsor EV's sales could be partly due to the imminent launch of the 50 kWh version. At present, the EV is powered by a 38 kWh battery pack. The bigger battery pack will make the range and power figures spike (to over 460 km per charge). The Windsor EV's overall appeal and sales will also see major leaps up. The same could have affected the February volumes, as more people would have simply been waiting for the new model to launch.
At present, the Windsor EV is priced upwards of Rs 9.9 lakh, ex-showroom (under the battery as a Service (BaaS) program). If bought with BaaS, the user will have to pay Rs 3.5 in battery rent for every kilometre driven. If you are to pay the full vehicle prices, the base-spec will cost Rs 13.5 lakh and the top variant will cost Rs 15.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The EV comes in three variants- Excite, Exclusive, and Essence.
The Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) looks unique and is based on the Wuling Cloud EV sold abroad. Key design highlights include LED lighting, aerodynamic design, an air dam in the middle of the bumper, aero wheels, a floating roof and flush-type door handles.
Inside its cabin, the Windsor EV gets a simple yet attractive layout. The feature list includes an 8.8-inch digital instrument gauge cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, a panoramic glass roof, seats that can recline up to 135 degrees, a 9-speaker Infinity sound system, automatic climate control, and cruise control.
The safety suite consists of 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
The powertrain consists of a single electric motor and a capable battery pack. It is capable of generating 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. The vehicle comes with a front wheel drive (FWD) layout. MG claims a range of 331 km for the Windsor. The 38 kWh battery can be charged from 20-80 per cent in 55 minutes with a 50 kW DC fast charger. An AC full charge will take 6.5 to 7.4 hours to complete.
The British manufacturer plans to launch two premium products in the Indian market soon- the Cyberster electric sportscar and the M9 electric MPV. These will be sold through the newly set-up 'MG Select' premium retailer network.
