MG Windsor EV Achieves Highest-Ever Monthly Sales

JSW MG Motor India’s Windsor EV has continued its strong run in the Indian electric vehicle market, posting its best monthly performance to date. With 4,308 units dispatched in July 2025, the Windsor EV not only retained its position as India’s highest-selling electric car for the tenth straight month but also hit its all-time peak for monthly sales.
This figure played a significant role in MG’s overall monthly sales, which reached 6,678 units in July 2025. Compared to July 2024, when the company recorded 4,575 units, this marks a 46 percent year-on-year increase. The month-on-month growth from June 2025’s 5,829 units is also notable at 14.6 percent, reflecting a broader surge in demand across MG’s portfolio, primarily driven by the Windsor EV.
MG’s ability to maintain the Windsor EV’s popularity can be attributed to its diversified variant lineup and customer-centric ownership models. The car is offered in five variants, spread across two battery options: a 38kWh unit and a larger 52.9kWh pack. The recent addition of Pro variants, which bring in a larger battery and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), has helped the model appeal to buyers looking for more range and safety features.
What also sets the Windsor EV apart is MG’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option. This ownership model allows customers to purchase the car for a lower initial price of around ₹10 lakh, while paying usage charges of ₹3.9 per kilometre for the battery. For those preferring traditional ownership, fixed battery versions start at ₹14 lakh. This flexibility makes the Windsor EV an attractive proposition for a range of customers, especially those comparing it with rivals like the Tata Nexon EV or Mahindra XUV400.
The Windsor EV’s technical specifications support its appeal beyond just pricing and ownership models. The vehicle’s permanent magnet synchronous motor delivers 136PS and 200Nm of torque, making it suitable for both urban commuting and longer highway drives. The larger 52.9kWh battery variant offers an ARAI-certified range of 449km, helping to address the range anxiety that still affects many EV buyers.
On the charging front, the car supports 7.4kW AC charging for home installations, while its DC fast-charging capability of up to 60kW can top up the battery from 0 to 80 percent in about 50 minutes. These features ensure that owners can recharge their vehicles with relative ease, whether at home overnight or on the move.
Regional trends have also played a role in the Windsor EV’s success. Southern states such as Karnataka, Telangana, and Kerala account for nearly 47 percent of MG’s EV sales, owing to better charging infrastructure, state-level incentives, and more receptive early adopters. These regions have emerged as hotspots for electric vehicle penetration, and MG’s sustained focus on them has paid off.
In July 2025, total passenger EV sales in India reached 15,423 units, reflecting a massive 93 percent increase over the same month last year. With the Windsor EV alone accounting for 33 percent of this figure, its influence on the market cannot be overstated. MG’s EV-specific market share also grew from 28 percent in Q1 2025 to 32 percent in Q2, showing that the Windsor is more than just a consistent seller—it is a market shaper.
JSW MG Motor’s production capabilities are being scaled to meet growing demand. The company is expanding its Halol facility in Gujarat to increase production capacity from 100,000 units to 300,000 annually by 2027. This is expected to not only address supply constraints but also support the launch of new products.
MG’s broader product strategy also includes expansion into the premium segment through its MG Select channel, which will retail models like the M9 luxury MPV and the Cyberster electric sportscar. While these will enhance brand perception and target a different segment of buyers, the Windsor EV remains central to MG’s volume and market share growth.
