The MG Windsor is going great guns. The electric crossover utility vehicle has clocked an impressive 13,322 sales in just four months of launch, and each month, the Windsor has ended up becoming India’s best-selling electric car. In fact, for the past four months the Windsor singlehandedly has outsold Tata Motors’ entire range of electric cars including the Nexon.EV.

While Tata Motors managed to sell 12,755 electric cars in the last four months, the Windsor alone did over 13,000! In October 2024, the Windsor clocked 3,116 units while November saw it doing 3,144 units. December and January 2025 were even better with 3,785 and 3,277 sales respectively. What makes the MG Windsor so popular, so much so that the electric vehicle is outselling every other EV in India? Well, here’s not one, not two but five solid reasons why everyone’s buying the MG Windsor.

Supremely comfortable

Born electric, the MG Windsor has acres and acres of space on the inside. Boasting a 2,700 mm wheelbase and a flat floor thanks to the battery neatly integrated into it, the electric car is way more spacious than every other competitor – both old and new.

In fact, the Windsor punches well above its weight and is more spacious than even electric vehicles that are more expensive. What this means is, passengers in both the front and rear seats can really stretch out and enjoy the lounge-like ambience the Windsor offers. Then, there are sofa-like seats of the car, which ensconce passengers, offering supreme comfort even on longer distances.

Fantastic Value-For-Money

The base trim of the Windsor EV is priced at Rs. 13.99 lakh, making it the largest electric vehicle one can buy for this price. Competitors – read Tata Nexon.EV and Mahindra XUV400, are much smaller, inside-out. Then, there’s the sheer gamut of features that the Windsor offers – glass roof, a massive touchscreen infotainment unit, a fully-loaded safety package, flush-fit door handles, and more. And as one goes up the variant line up, there are more features on offer.

Peppy performance, adequate everyday range

The Windsor EV is powered by a 136 Bhp-200 Nm electric motor, running off a 38 kWh LFP battery. This battery gives the Windsor a claimed range of 330 Kms. In the real world, the Windsor EV manages 200-220 Kms very comfortably, even when driven hard. This, coupled to India’s fast growing electric vehicle charging infrastructure, is more than adequate for everyday use. MG has also offered limited free charging to early birds, making the ownership experience of the Windsor very cost effective. As for outright performance, the Windsor has 200 Nm of torque right off idle, which makes acceleration quite intense, at a sub-10 second 0-100 Kph run. Overtaking, again thanks to the dollops of torque available, is quite seamless and smooth.

There’s Battery-As-A-Service, too

To make the Windsor extremely accessible, JSW-MG Motor came up with Battery-As-A-Service (BAAS) – a unique battery rental program. Through BAAS, the Windsor’s starting price reduced to just Rs. 9.99 lakh, making it extremely accessible to even those with tight budgets. This industry-first offering (BAAS) is another reason for driving Windsor sales. Nearly 15 % of all MG Windsors bought in India over the past 4 months have come from the BAAS offering.

JSW-MG Motor has produced nearly15,000 units of the Windsor from its Halol factory in Gujarat. The automaker has orders for 18,000 more Windsors, which means that this electric car could be in the leaderboard for many more months to come.
