MG Windsor has lately been leading the EV game in India. It is selling well due to the smart packaging and competitive pricing. The carmaker has now announced an upward revision in the EV's prices. It applies only to the range-topping 'Essence Pro' variant. Its price has now shot up by Rs 21,200, tipping the scale at Rs 18.31 lakh. Other variants retain their previous prices.

The Windsor now comes in two versions- the Windsor EV and Windsor EV Pro. The former comes with a 38 kWh battery pack while the latter has a much larger 52.9 kWh unit. There are three broad trims- Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. All three are available on the 38 kWh Windsor. The Windsor Pro comes in just two variants- the Exclusive Pro and Essence Pro.

If you're looking to buy the Windsor Pro, this price hike may not bother you much. MG continues to offer a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model of ownership which lets you own the vehicle by paying just Rs 13.31 lakh and a battery rent of Rs 4.5 per km.

More About The Windsor Pro

MG launched the Windsor Pro in May this year. It gets the same design as the standard Windsor EV. The only visual difference would be the PRO badges and fresh alloy wheels. The carmaker has, however, introduced a revised colour palette on the Windsor Pro. There are three colour options- Aurora Silver, Glaze Red and Celadon Blue.

Inside the cabin, the Windsor Pro gets premium trims like faux wood and copper accents. MG has improved the material quality and trims inside. The interior colour scheme has been changed to a pleasant shade of Beige. The standard Windsor has an all-Black cabin.

The Windsor Pro's feature list has a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a powered tailgate, Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Wireless charging pads, a 9-speaker Infinity audio system, automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, cruise control, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging, and level-2 ADAS.

Just like the standard Windsor, the Pro comes with seats that can recline up to 135 degrees (MG calls these 'Aero lounge seats'). These are claimed to offer high occupant comfort.

The biggest highlight of the Windsor Pro is the larger battery pack. The 52.9 kWh unit consists of Prismatic cells and is claimed to deliver a range of 449 km on a single charge. The powertrain output stands at 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque- decent, considering it is an EV that focuses on practicality and occupant comfort.

The standard EV's 38 kWh has a claimed range of just 331 km. This makes the Windsor Pro more suitable for inter-city commutes and long drives. This seems to have aligned well with the expectations of Indian EV buyers. The Pro variants saw immense demand and soaring bookings soon after their launch.

Crowded Segment, Strong Fight

The Windsor EV competes with electric vehicles from the B and C segments. These segments record the highest number of footfalls today. The Windsor has earned its top spot fighting the likes of the Nexon EV, Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric and the recently launched Kia Carens Clavis EV. The range-topping Windsor Pro variants, with their prices, are placed squarely against the Creta Electric and the Carens EV.

The latest price revision hasn't pushed the Essence PRO variant to levels that would render it less appealing to C-segment EV buyers.
