MG Windsor Pro Vs Hyundai Creta Electric Vs Tata Curvv.EV: Prices And Specs Compared

JSW MG Motor India has just launched the new Windsor Pro EV in the country- essentially the long-range version of the popular model with a larger 53 kWh battery pack. Starting from Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the pricing seems to be perfect!
It places the Windsor Pro at a price that's significantly lower than some of its rivals. Talking about the competition, the new variant will battle the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric and the Tata Curvv EV. Let's see how the new MG fares against these in price and specifications.
Let's start with the specifications. The EV comes with a 52.9 kWh battery pack with Prismatic cells. Unlike what the previous rumours suggested, the Windsor PRO has a powertrain output of 136hp and 200 Nm of torque. The electric vehicle features a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout. The new battery pack takes 9.5 hours for a full charge with a 7.4kWh AC charger. Over a DC charger, 20 to 80 per cent top-up will take around 50 minutes.
The Windsor Pro's 52.9 kWh battery pack is claimed to deliver a range of 449 km per charge. This is a notable hike from the 331 km range offered by the regular Windsor with its 38 kWh battery pack. However, in comparison, it could stand a touch lower than the claimed range figures of the Creta Electric and the Curvv.EV. We'll now take a deeper dive into these...
The Hyundai Creta Electric offers two battery options- 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. The Long Range (LR) version is offered on the Smart (O) and Excellence variants. It has a claimed range of 473 km per charge. The powertrain here, has an output of 169 bhp and 255 Nm.
Now let's take the case of Tata Curvv.EV. Tata Motors offers this electric coupe with two battery pack choices- 45 kWh and 55 kWh. When it was launched in August last year, the Curvv.EV's ex-showroom price used to start at Rs 17.49 lakh. This is, however, for the smaller battery option.
The 55 kWh version had a starting price of Rs 19.25 lakh, ex-showroom. The 55 kWh unit is claimed to deliver a range of 585 kilometres. The real-world range could stand somewhere in between 400-425 kms (according to the C75 drive cycle). The power and torque here, are 165 bhp and 215 Nm respectively.
It is clear from the numbers above that the Windsor EV Pro has the lowest power and torque among the three. The Creta EV and Curvv. EV could have an air of sportiness to the ways they drive, while the Windsor is a more practical, comfortable electric vehicle targeted at families.
The Windsor Pro, Creta Electric and Cruvv.EV could confuse you with how closely they stand to each other in the fight. It is here that the pricing gets decisive. The Windsor Pro seems to have the most perfect price, among the three. With the regular Essence variant priced at 16.14 lakh, owning the PRO takes just an additional 1.5 lakh rupees.
The Creta Electric's 51.4 kWh version is priced from Rs 21.5 lakh, ex-showroom while the Curvv.EV's 55 variants begin at Rs 19.25 lakh rupees. If we were to cast an opinion, we'd say that the Tata has a justifiable price and the Creta LR is slightly ambitious with its pricing!
The Windsor Pro is clearly, 4-5 lakh cheaper than the long range versions of some of its rivals. You get comparable range and performance at a notably lower price point!
Furthermore, there is the BaaS (Battery as a Service) program that lets you own the Windsor Pro by paying just 12.99 lakh for the vehicle and a battery rent of Rs 4.9 for every kilometer driven, in battery rent. MG's new EV thus puts serious pressure on its rivals in the domestic market...
