MG Motor India has introduced the Windsor Pro as the new top-spec variant in the Windsor lineup. MG Windsor has been in huge acceptance in the country. The Pro variant comes with a larger battery pack and a slightly higher price (than the previous top-spec Essence), the Windsor Pro offers a premium alternative to the standard Windsor EV. Here's a detailed look at how the two versions compare across price, performance, design, and features.

MG Windsor vs Windsor Pro: Differences Explained

Price Comparison: The Windsor Pro is priced at ₹17.50 lakh, ex-showroom. It is available only in the top-spec Essence trim. The standard Windsor EV, on the other hand, starts at ₹13.99 lakh, ex-showroom, for the Excite trim. The Exclusive and Essence trims are priced at ₹15.04 lakh and ₹16.14 lakh respectively. The Windsor Pro thus commands a price premium of Rs 1.5 lakh over the Essence trim (of the standard EV).

MG has confirmed that these prices are introductory and will apply only to the first 8,000 customers. Bookings for the Windsor Pro will begin on May 8, 2025.

BaaS Prices: MG is also offering the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program on both models. With BaaS, the Windsor Pro starts at Rs 12.50 lakh and includes a battery rental cost of Rs 4.5 per kilometre. The regular Windsor EV has costs a lot less under the BaaS program. It has a BaaS price of 9.99 lakh rupees. The battery rent, in this case, amounts to Rs 3.5 per kilometre.

Battery Capacity: The biggest difference between the two models is the battery capacity. The Windsor Pro is powered by a 52.9 kWh battery pack, which is claimed to deliver a range of 449 km on every full charge. The regular Windsor EV uses a much smaller 38 kWh battery, which offers a range of 331 km. Despite the difference in battery sizes, both variants use the same front-mounted electric motor that generates 134 bhp and 200 Nm of torque.

Interior Changes: Inside the cabin, the Windsor Pro feels more premium with a new dual-tone Black and Ivory interior. It gets multiple faux wood trims and Copper touches inside. The Windsor Pro also comes with features like Level 2 ADAS, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L)and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging. It also comes with features like powered tailgate and a driver's seat that is six-way power adjustable.

The regular Windsor EV also comes with a solid set of features as well- includes a large 15.6-inch touchscreen, rear AC vents, and a panoramic glass roof. The driver gets six-way adjustable powered seat, while the passenger seat gets four-way adjustment. However, it misses out on the ADAS tech, V2L, and V2V features.

Design Changes: Visually, the Windsor Pro gets new diamond-cut alloy wheels that give it a unique identity. MG also offers the Pro variant in three new exterior colours: Celadon Blue, Glaze Red, and Aurora Silver. The overall styling remains sleek and modern, with connected LED DRLs, an illuminated brand logo, flush door handles, and LED head and tail lamps. The regular Windsor EV also features 18-inch diamond-cut wheels, though without the exclusive design elements offered on the 'Pro'.

Boot Capacity: The regular Windsor Pro offers a boot capacity of 604 liters. Owing to its larger battery pack, the Windsor Pro's boot space has been reduced to 579 liters. This difference isn't big enough to be a deal breaker for most.

Charging Time: The regular Windsor EV takes 55 minutes to charge from 20 to 80 percent, over a DC fast charger. However, despite having the larger battery pack, the Windsor Pro takes lesser time to replenish its battery- 20-80% in 50 minutes!

Bottomline

With the Windsor Pro, MG has created a more premium (and desirable) version of its popular electric SUV. With its introduction, the Windsor lineup has become even more desirable and has put rivals like the Creta EV and Tata Curvv.EV under increased pressure.
