What if we tell you that you can buy a full sized SUV with massive road presence, great market value and a powerful engine at the price of a mid spec compact SUV such as the Hyundai Creta. Yes, you have heard that right, today we will talk about the base S trim of the legendary Scorpio which is currently sold by the name of Scorpio Classic.

The SUV is shown in a walkaround video uploaded by Fuel Injected. Now, let’s start with the details. The Scorpio Classic is sold in two variants which are the base S trim and the top spec S11 trim. With the base S trim Mahindra has tried to reduce the cost as much as possible by cutting all the necessary features and even leaving some parts unpainted.

Additionally, this trim can also be opted with a nine eat configuration. The price for the Scorpio Classic S starts at Rs. 13.62 lakh for the seven seat configuration and goes up to Rs. 13.87 lakh for the nine seat version. On the other hand, the S11 trim which is available in a seven seat version only is priced at Rs. 17.42 lakh.

At the front, the SUV gets same grille as its top spec but without the chrome accents which look premium. The headlights are reflector based halogen units. As mentioned earlier, Mahindra has cut down on essential features. Hence, DRLs and fog lamps are not offered in this trim.

Further cost cutting is evident as the bumpers, side cladding (body colored in the S11 trim), B & C pillars, and the door handles are left unpainted. A surprising bit is that the ORVMs are gloss black. However, the side cladding and the bumpers feature some gloss black accents.

The front of the SUV retains its iconic hood scoop which is offered since the introduction of the Scorpio back in 2002. Central locking and remote lock/unlock are absent in this trim.

The car rides on unpainted 17-inch steel rims. The indicators are mounted on the fenders instead of being mounted on the ORVMs. However, even the top spec comes with the same positioning. There is nothing much to talk about the rear as it does not offer much except the LED taillights and the reverse parking sensors.

Essential features such as the rear defogger, wiper with washer and roof spoiler are found missing. Another iconic bit about the Scorpio is its side opening boot which is retained in both the Scorpio N and the Scorpio Classic.

The interior of this SUV is fairly simple as well with a beige and black theme. Infotainment system, steering mounted controls, chrome accents, auto AC are some of the features which are absent here. The Scorpio Classic S gets all four power windows which is a must have thing if you are buying a car.

The Scorpio Classic is powered by a single 2.2 litre diesel engine. This is the same engine which is found in the lower trims of Scorpio N. In the Scorpio Classic, this unit produces 132 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual only.
