South Indian states like Mumbai, Goa, Kerala, and Karnataka have been experiencing heavy rainfall for some time. Yesterday, most of us woke up to the sad news of multiple landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad district. Kerala is experiencing heavy rainfall, and the authorities have asked people to stay alert in almost all the districts. Many rivers are overflowing, and some bridges have gone underwater. Here we have a nerve-wracking video from Kerala where a Maruti Alto is seen crossing a flooded bridge built across an overflowing river.

Watch on YouTube

The video has been shared by Manorama News on their YouTube channel. The video is said to be from Kerala’s Idukki, a district that has been getting heavy rains. All this rain has increased the water level in the river, and it is now flowing violently. The water level is so high that it is now flowing over the bridge.

It is an extremely dangerous-looking scene. A few seconds into the video, we see a Maruti Alto K10 entering the bridge. The driver was probably escaping from the spot with his car. We see the car rushing to the other side of the bridge.

The bridge is partially submerged. We see the hatchback wading through the water on the bridge, and without stopping, the driver takes the car to the other side.

Thankfully, nothing went wrong, and the car did manage to get to the other side of the bridge. The railings on the bridge are not too tall, which makes things even riskier. The Alto K10 is a very lightweight vehicle, and it could easily get caught in the current and be pushed into the river from the bridge.

It is extremely risky, and we would never recommend anyone do anything like that. People have lost their lives doing stunts. We went through the comment section of the video and found that the only reason the person decided to drive the car through the flooded bridge was because of a hospital emergency. This is an exception, as the driver had no other choice but to drive his pregnant wife to the hospital.

If you are living in a place where you are currently experiencing heavy rainfall, waterlogging, or flooding, always be careful. Never take your car in such situations. Relocate to a nearby safe location or a rescue shelter. Do not get out of the house or drive during such situations. Avoid road trips to hill stations, as they are extremely dangerous during this time.

Even if you have a proper 4×4 SUV, we won’t recommend driving through flooded roads or bridges, as the chances of water getting into the air intake and damaging the engine are pretty high. Repairing a hydrolocked engine is going to cost you a lot.

If you are already on the road and come across a waterlogged section, look for alternate routes and never drive into the water. Also, if you are driving through wet roads, drive at slow speeds to reduce the risk of aquaplaning and accidents during the rainy season.
