All New Isuzu MU-X Almost Here: To Challenge Toyota Fortuner

Japanese car manufacturer Isuzu has been present in the Indian market for some years now. Everyone knows about the lifestyle pickup truck from Isuzu. It is quite popular among those who love to explore the outdoors and enjoy off-roading. It is, in fact, one of the vehicles that popularized lifestyle pickup trucks in India. However, the V-Cross is not the only model that Isuzu sells in India. It also offers a full-size SUV under the name MU-X. The SUV recently got an update, and the new version of this SUV was unveiled in Thailand. The SUV is sold in India, and the same updated version is expected to come to our market too. The new MU-X will challenge market leader Toyota Fortuner.

The updated Isuzu MU-X is based on the second-generation model, which was launched in the market back in 2020. The new updated version of the MU-X SUV is offered in Ultimate and RS variants. The RS variant, as the name denotes, has elements that make it look sportier, while the Ultimate version gives it a premium touch.

The SUV comes with a redesigned front grille, which is now larger than before. The bumper now looks more muscular and it also has sleek-looking LED headlamps and projector fog lamps. The front of the SUV looks more muscular than before. The side profile of the SUV is different from the SUV that is sold in India.

The MU-X never got an update for a very long time in India. At the rear, the SUV gets revised tail lamps. Just like many other SUVs in the market, Isuzu is also offering an LED tail lamp with a connecting LED bar that runs across the width of the SUV’s tailgate.

The Ultimate version has a decent amount of chrome on several parts, while the sportier RS version gets a blacked-out grille and other trims to complement the theme. The SUV is equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels. Both these variants have different-looking alloy wheels.

The interior of the Isuzu MU-X has also been redesigned. It now comes with a brand new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wired and wireless). The RS variant gets red ambient light for a sportier theme. The interior theme of the RS variant is all black; the seats are all finished in this shade, while the Ultimate variant gets truffle brown leather upholstery with matching inserts.

Isuzu is also offering safety features like ADAS, which includes lane-keeping assist, traffic jam assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic brake. The SUV also gets a 360-degree camera and a camera under the car, which helps in seeing obstacles closely while off-roading.

The Isuzu MU-X sold in Thailand is available with two diesel engine options. It gets a 1.9-liter turbocharged diesel engine that generates 148 Bhp. This is the same engine that is offered with the V-Cross too. The next is a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine that generates 187 Bhp. Both these engine options are available with 4×2 and 4×4 options.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The MU-X is expected to be cheaper than its prime rival – the Toyota Fortuner. The new design and additional features should make the new Isuzu MU-X a worthy rival to the best selling Toyota Fortuner.
