India's Top-10 Selling Cars And Their New Lower Prices

The Indian government’s revised GST structure has benefited the automotive sector. In the first half of 2025, we saw the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R top the chart, posting sales of 101,424 units. Models like the Hyundai Creta, Brezza, Dzire, and Nexon were also in good demand. With the new tax slabs in place, these will become more affordable, and the sales will likely shoot further up. Let’s see the revised prices of India’s top-selling cars and SUVs.
In the first seven months, the Maruti Wagon R topped the sales chart. It sold 101424 units. In the second spot, we have the Hyundai Creta that sold 100,560 units. At the third spot was Maruti Dzire, 96101 units of which were sold during the period. The subsequent positions were occupied by Brezza, Swift, Ertiga, Fronx, Nexon, Scorpio, and the Punch.
The new framework says that car and SUV models under four meters in length, and with petrol engines of up to 1200 cc, or diesel engines of up to 1500cc, will qualify for tax benefits. These will be put under a new 18% GST slab. The system also does away with the Cess. This greatly benefits budget-conscious buyers and small cars.
Let’s start with the Punch. It has a length of 3,827 mm and comes with a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine. Under the new framework, the total tax now comes down to 18%. This has made it more affordable by up to Rs 85,000. At present, it is priced in the range of Rs 6.2- 9.57 lakh, ex-showroom. The revised prices will kick in on September 22, 2025. The Punch will then start at Rs. 5.65 lakh and go up to Rs 8.7 lakh, both ex-showroom.
Now, consider the case of the Mahindra Scorpio. Under the new scheme, it will attract a flat tax of 40%. There will be no additional cess. The Scorpio lineup now has two models- the Classic and the Scorpio-N. The Classic will see price reductions of up to 1.01 lakh rupees. The S variant’s ex-showroom price has come down to Rs 13.77 lakh, while that of the S11 stands at Rs 17.72 lakh.
The Scorpio-N has seven variants on offer. The prices have been reduced by up to Rs 1.44 lakh. The entry-spec Z2 variant is now cheaper by Rs 81,800, while the range-topping Z8L is now Rs 1.44 lakh cheaper. Though the GST on these now stands at 40%, the absence of additional cess seems to have benefited the buyers.
For the Nexon owners, GST 2.0 has brought about savings of up to Rs 1.52 lakh on some variants. The SUV now starts at Rs 7.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.39 lakh, ex-showroom. These will likely be reduced to Rs 7.31 lakh and Rs 13.57 lakh, respectively. The carmaker is yet to roll out the new prices officially.
GST on the Maruti Fronx will be reduced to 18%, making it more affordable by up to Rs 1.1 lakh. The Alpha variant with 1.0L turbo-petrol engine will benefit the most. At present, the prices begin at Rs 7.58 lakh and go up to Rs 12.98 lakh. Under the new slab, these will be adjusted to Rs 6.93- Rs 11.84 lakh, ex-showroom.
The revised GST on Maruti Ertiga is 40%. At present, the petrol variants are priced in the range of Rs 9.11- Rs 13.40 lakh, ex-showroom. These will get adjusted to Rs 8.8 lakh- Rs 12.94 lakh, under the new regime. The CNG variants, too, will be taxed at 40%. The prices of these variants will likely fall to Rs 10.77- 11.83 lakh.
Now consider the Swift. With its 3860 mm length and 1.2L petrol engine, this hatchback qualifies for the 18% slab. Its entry price will fall to Rs 5.93 lakh while the top-spec will cost Rs 8.68 lakh, both ex-showroom. At present, these are Rs 6.49 lakh and 9.49 lakh, respectively.
The Brezza has a length of 3,995 mm, but comes with a 1.5L petrol engine. The lower slab applies only to vehicles with petrol engines of up to 1.2L. The Brezza thus will be taxed higher. We expect its prices to be in the range of Rs 8.39- 13.49 lakh, ex-showroom, post revision.
The new Dzire now has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 6.83 lakh for the LXi variant. The range-topping variant costs Rs 10.19 lakh, ex-showroom. Under the new regime, savings of up to Rs 86800 are to be expected. The new ex-showroom prices could start at Rs 6.25 lakh and go up to Rs 9.32 lakh.
The Creta, with its present pricing of Rs 11.10 lakh- Rs 20.92 lakh, continues to dominate its segment. Under the new tax framework, these are expected to come down to Rs 10.72 lakh- Rs 20.19 lakh, ex-showroom. Buyers will be able to save up to Rs 72,100 on the compact SUV.
Now, India’s best-selling car- the Maruti Wagon R. It currently has its ex-showroom prices in the range of Rs 5.78- 7.49 lakh. The new prices could start at Rs 5.28 lakh and go up to Rs 6.3 lakh, for the range-topping variant.
The GST revision will breathe fresh air into the automotive sector. India’s top-selling cars will likely post higher volumes in the coming months. Some of the manufacturers mentioned above have already announced the revised prices, while others will roll out the same on September 22.
