3 New MG Cars Launching This Year: Petrol, Diesel And EV

MG Motor, the British car maker is all set to refresh its India lineup with a new launch and two facelift. It’s been quite some time since the brand did something new in the country. Now, let’s discuss about what is coming.

Astor Facelift

The MG Astor was first launched in 2021 with first in segment features such as a personal AI assistant and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features. Now, the brand is planning to update this SUV.

Major changes are expected in the exterior such as sleek LED headlamps, a new redesigned grille with quilted diamond pattern and a new sporty bumper with huge air dams for aerodynamics.

The interior is also expected to undergo major changes which include an all-new dashboard with a twin-display setup for infotainment and instrument cluster, along with multiple modern features such as an electronic parking brake and wireless charging.

There are no confirmations regarding engines apart from the ones already in the SUV. However, sources suggest that a new hybrid powertrain with improved fuel efficiency may be introduced. In the Indian market, the MG Astor is positioned in the fiercely competitive Compact SUV segment with popular players such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate and the Volkswagen Taigun.

Gloster Facelift

The MG Gloster is one of the few Fortuner competitors in the Indian automotive landscape. Furthermore, this is the flagship SUV by the brand in India. The facelift MG Gloster will get vertically stacked LED headlamps and a more aggressive and wider front fascia.

It will get sleek LED headlamps which will be integrated into the new grille. The test mule of the Gloster Facelift has been spotted multiple times.

No changes are expected in the engine and it will continue to be powered by a 2.0 litre turbo diesel that produces 213 PS of power and 479 Nm of torque on the top-trim.

Cloud Crossover EV

The new MG Cloud Crossover EV will be a more premium offering than the existing ZS EV. This new electric crossover by MG is based on the Wulling Cloud EV, sold in Indonesia.

Regarding the battery pack, it may feature two options which are a smaller 37.9 kWh pack and a much bigger 50.6 kWh battery pack. These are the same battery packs, the Wulling Cloud EV is offered with.

The smaller battery pack has a claimed driving range of about 360 km on a single charge while the larger one offers a claimed driving range of 505 km on a single charge.-

The expected price for the MG Cloud EV is to be between Rs 25-28 lakh. The test mule of the MG Cloud EV has been spotted multiple times.

Upon launch, the Cloud EV will be the third electric car by the brand. The other two EVs are MG ZS EV and the Comet EV. As per reports, the MG Cloud EV may be launched sometime in September 2024.
