Next-Generation Nissan Terrano Spied For The First Time [Video]

Nissan has lately been riding rough waves globally. The Indian vertical is surviving on just one model- the Magnite. The carmaker's Indian portfolio consists of just two models- the Magnite and the X-Trail. The latter was almost dead on arrival- thanks to its over-ambitious pricing. Nissan, however, has no plans to give up and is preparing to launch more SUVs which are expected to be priced competitively. A previous presentation showed B and C segment products to be in the pipeline, which would also include electric vehicles. An important launch would be the Nissan version of the upcoming new-generation Duster, which could be called the new 'Terrano' when launched. Now, the vehicle has been spied testing in Brazil.
The carmaker will launch two new SUVs in Brazil in the upcoming months. One of these will be the new-generation Kicks. The second could be this.
The Nissan version of the new-generation Duster will have a unique front fascia with Nissan's signature V-Motion grille design. It could also feature sharper lighting instead of the Y-shaped DRLs of the Duster. There will be a new bumper design as well.
The latest visuals show the rear side of the SUV. The rear windscreen, parts of the rear bumper, spoiler and roofline can be seen. Camouflage on the vehicle doesn't reveal the finer details.
The spy pictures suggest the vehicle to be smaller than the new Kicks which spans 4,366 mm in length. The Kicks was launched in 2024 and currently sells in the North American market alone. Brazil will get it later this year. India, however, is unlikely to get the new Kicks anytime soon.
The Brazil-spec SUV will be manufactured at the Resende facility. This factory received an investment of R$2.8 billion in 2023. The Nissan version of the third-generation Duster will likely have a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine in here.
The Duster is offered with multiple powertrain choices in the global market. The engine lineup includes a 140 PS, 1.6-litre petrol strong hybrid, a 130 PS 1.2-litre turbo petrol mild hybrid, a 100 PS 1.0-litre petrol-LPG bi-fuel option and a 150-170 PS 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine.
The Duster also has an e-4WD variant, with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle. A 4×4 LPG version of the Duster is also known to be under development. For markets like Latin American countries and Brazil, the carmaker needs a well-rounded product like the rebadged third-generation Duster.
In the Indian market, the Nissan badged Duster could come with the same powerplants as the third-generation Duster. It is too early to ascertain the details of these. The petrol and LPG powertrains seem the most relevant for our market. When launched, it will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Tata Curvv, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun, in the Indian market.
Renault India will launch the new-generation Duster in the country in 2025. It will be based on the new CMF-B LS (Common Module Family) platform.
The LS (‘Low Specification’) which expands to version is aimed at developing markets like India. This architecture is more cost-effective than the regular CMF-B. Being a rebadged version, the third-generation Terrano will also be based on the same platform.
The new Duster will have good cabin room and features inside. The likes of digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, driver-inclined touchscreen infotainment panel with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leatherette ventilated seats, powered driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control and even ADAS are to be expected. The Nissan could also get these.
Despite the long list of powertrains on offer in international markets, the Indian version could come with the 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (HR13DDT) alone, as per reports. This powerhouse will likely come in two states of tune and be capable of producing 130 BHP/ 240 Nm and 150 BHP/ 250 Nm.
