Toyota seems to have interesting plans for the Indian market. This year, the Japanese carmaker could launch four new models here. The proposed lineup includes both EV and ICE SUVs. Both full-sized and compact SUVs are in plans. Here are further details of these:

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the eVitara in the upcoming months. It would be the manufacturer’s first-ever electric vehicle for the Indian market. It will also have a Toyota counterpart- which could be called the Urban Cruiser EV upon launch. The prototype was previously showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025.

The production form is expected in the second half of this year, sometime during the festive season. It will have share its mechanicals with the Maruti EV. There would thus be two battery packs on offer- 49kWh and 61kWh. The electric motors will sit on the front axles and will produce 143bhp and 173bhp depending on the variant. The torque would be 193Nm in both cases. The bigger battery is expected to deliver 500 km in range.

In its design, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will differ clearly from the eVitara. It will have slimmer headlamps with a connecting Chrome bar, a good-looking grille, and a bumper with two vertical air vents. The show car had tinted windows and not much could be deduced about the interior. However, you can expect the EV to come equipped with a 10.1-inch instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat., ventilation seats, Level 1 ADAS and 7 airbags.

Toyota Hyryder 7-Seater

Maruti Suzuki is developing a 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara, which will have a Toyota re-badged version as well. This will be a three-row version of the Hyryder. The official launch timeline is yet to be revealed. Rumours suggest that the SUV could be out only by the end of this year.

Reports say that the design and styling will draw heavily from those of the 5-seater counterpart. It will, however, be longer and will have more space inside. The interior will also have a strong resemblance to that of the Hyryder. It could offer features like ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a touchscreen infotainment system, a tyre pressure monitoring system and more…

The 3-row SUV is expected to feature the same set of engines as the regular Hyryder. It would thus get a 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and a 1.5L, 3-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine. A 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox would likely be offered. The strong hybrid version will feature an e-CVT transmission.

Toyota Fortuner MHEV

The Fortuner recently got a mild hybrid powertrain in the South African market. The Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) is expected to reach India in 2026 if not 2025. The SUV will be powered by a hybrid version of the 2.8L diesel engine. It will have a 48V mild hybrid system which is claimed to offer an additional 16bhp and 42 Nm. The combined output would be around 201hp and 500 Nm. It will be mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and will have two drivetrain options – 2WD and 4WD.

The hybrid Fortuner is claimed to be up to 5% more fuel efficient. The idle start-stop feature contributes a lot to this. It also helps in bringing about a better throttle response and smoother engine start. The mild hybrid Fortuner will also come with features like ADAS and a 360-degree camera.

Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

The new Land Cruiser Prado has also been confirmed for an India launch in late 2025. It will be brought as complete imports (CBU) and could thus be priced in the range of 1.7-1.95 Crores. It will sit below the Land Cruiser LC300 in Toyota’s portfolio, and will compete with the Land Rover Defender.

The specifications of the India-spec Prado are yet to be known. In some international markets, it comes with the same 2.8L diesel engine as the Fortuner. In markets like North America and the Middle East, there is a 2.4L petrol-hybrid powertrain on offer as well.

The new SUV’s cabin would have an all-Black colourway. The features to be expected are a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, a new steering wheel with the signature moniker, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a wireless charging pad, AC vents for the second and third rows, and many more features. Recently, a batch of Land Cruiser Prados was spotted on trailer trucks in India. They were being transported to Nepal, where the manufacturer had recently launched the vehicle.
