In addition to this particular video, there are multiple other videos that have been shared online. What's even more shocking is that one of these videos was shared just 12 hours after the inauguration of the Palava Flyover. In this clip, the entire road can be seen filled with loose gravel, which most likely is asphalt that has come off due to the rains.

This flyover is just two months old

For those who may not be aware, this particular flyover is located on Kalyan-Shilphata Road in Thane, Maharashtra. It is the Katai-Nilje flyover, which has been constructed by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ltd (MSRDC). This corporation is fully owned by the government of Maharashtra.

The inauguration of the Palava Flyover took place on July 4 this year. Shiv Sena MLA Rajesh More from Dombivli inaugurated this flyover. Since then, the condition of this flyover has only been deteriorating. There are a dozen more videos exposing the appalling condition of this flyover.

Has MSRDC said anything on the matter?

Back in July, when the flyover first came under scrutiny for its shoddy quality, it was stated by MSRDC that the contractor responsible for the construction of this flyover had used excess bitumen in certain areas. So, to stabilize the surface and prevent vehicles from slipping, grit powder was applied.

It then added that heavy rains caused the grit powder to spread, which made it look like potholes. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Dipesh Mhatre stated that asphalt mastic was required by the tender. However, instead, excess bitumen was applied to simulate the same.

The politician also highlighted that the government is spreading lies to cover up the contractor’s fault and corruption. Another politician — MNS MLA Pramod Patil — also questioned the flyover’s quality and demanded a quality test by VJTI (Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute).

Netizens’ reactions

Taking note of the videos shared online, a number of netizens have shared their comments on this pathetic condition of the flyover. One platform user stated, “I think the next step from @YTKDIndia should be forming a legal/investigating body that analyzes all such projects, people involved, and exposes them to the people, and if necessary, gets them nabbed legally as well.”

Another user added, “Have used this flyover today at noon and they have repaired, but honestly it did smell like corruption when you travel because the quality is so cheap that it will get washed away if poured for 2 days. Also, there are a few patches repaired only to wobble your vehicles.”
