Tata Nexon.ev is one of the best selling EVs for Indian manufacturer. It was first launched in 2019 and received a major update in 2023. With rising competition in the EV space, it looks like Tata is gearing up to take things to the next level. As per the recent reports, Tata has already started working on next-generation Nexon.ev and it is expected to be launched in the Indian market during the Diwali this year.

As per the information that has surfaced online, the next-generation Tata Nexon.ev will be based on the Acti.ev platform. What this could mean is that Tata might be building the Nexon EV from scratch. The current generation of the Nexon.ev is actually based on the ICE version. The battery pack is simply mounted under the floor with minor changes.

This is the fastest way to create an EV and the reason why Tata did not spend much on a new EV platform at that time was because they wanted to check if the market was ready or not. Now that EVs have picked up popularity among buyers, Tata has become one of the biggest names in the electric vehicle segment in India with 5 EVs in their line up.

They have plans to introduce electric version of Harrier, Safari and also launch Sierra EV in coming years. Coming back to the Nexon.ev, it could either be a new platform or Tata might make major changes to the existing platform to make it suitable for the next generation Nexon.ev. We would get to know more about these in the coming months.

The next-generation of the Nexon.ev is likely to be offered with more features and a different styling. We won’t be surprised if designers at Tata decide to take inspiration from Curvv and upcoming Tata models. The electric SUV is likely to be offered with two battery pack options. We expect a 45 kWh and a 55 kWh battery pack option with the SUV.

In 2023, when Tata launched the current version of Nexon.ev, Tata upgraded the battery pack on the Nexon.ev and we expect a similar thing to happen with the next-gen Nexon.ev.

With the bigger battery pack options, Tata Nexon.ev will finally offer certified driving range of over 500 kms. The same 45 kWh and 55 kWh battery pack options are available with the Tata Curvv.ev.

In the Curvv.ev, the 45 kWh battery pack delivers a claimed range of 489 km while the bigger battery version has a claimed range of 585 km. We don’t know if the current 30 kWh battery pack version of Nexon.ev will be sold alongside the upcoming EV as this would help Tata keep the entry level pricing of the Nexon.ev low.

Tata will also try to offer premium features to keep up with the competition. We can expect features like flush type door handles, handsfree tailgate, redesigned interiors that feel upmarket, ADAS features, auto park or summon function, multi-zone climate control and so on. With all these updates in place, price for the Nexon.ev will go up. The price for the current Nexon.ev starts at Rs 12.49 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 17.19 lakh, ex-showroom.
