Tata Nexon has been a very successful model for the Indian SUV maker. Nexon was the first SUV in the country to achieve a 5-star crash test rating, which attracted a lot of buyers. The SUV received its last facelift in 2023, and as part of the update, Nexon got a heavily updated exterior and interior. Tata Motors is said to be now working on the next-generation Nexon, which is expected to be launched in the market in 2027.

A speculative render of the next-gen Tata Nexon

The work on the next-generation Nexon has already begun, and Tata is internally calling it “Garud.” As per reports available online, the next-generation Nexon will use the same X1 platform as the current version. However, Tata will be making significant modifications to the platform as part of the development.

Along with the platform, Tata will be making major changes to the structure of the next-gen Nexon. In addition to an updated platform, Tata will also be working on the exterior and interior of the Nexon. The interior of the upcoming Nexon is likely to be in line with the latest Tata models like the Curvv or even the upcoming Sierra. In terms of features, Tata is expected to equip the next-gen Nexon with a large infotainment screen, Level 2 ADAS, a fully digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, seat ventilation for both front and rear passengers, electrically adjustable seats, and more.

There is not much information available about the upcoming Nexon. Regarding engine and transmission options, Tata is likely to offer the same set of petrol and CNG engine options. As for the diesel engines, there is still no clarity on whether Tata will make the existing 1.5-litre diesel engine BS7-compliant or discontinue the diesel engine option entirely.

Tata will also be launching an electric version of the Nexon based on the next-generation model. It is unclear whether Tata will introduce the EV version first. The next-generation Nexon EV will offer similar features to the ICE version. Tata might work on the battery pack and provide a larger battery with more range to make it even more appealing. The Tata Nexon will compete with the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra XUV 3X0 in the segment.

Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon is a sub-4-meter SUV that was first introduced in 2017. It got a minor facelift in 2020 and the current version was launched in 2023. It was, in fact, one of the SUVs that made Tata popular among mass-market customers. It had a sturdy look with a decent amount of space in the cabin and boot. The design of the Nexon was also different from other SUVs.

It was initially offered with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. These engine options were available with manual and AMT gearbox options. Tata later introduced the i-CNG technology in the Nexon, making it the first SUV in the country to offer a turbo petrol engine with CNG.

The price for the current version of the Nexon starts at ₹8 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹15.60 lakh (ex-showroom). With more updates and cosmetic changes, the prices of the Nexon are likely to increase.
