Nissan's BIGGEST Launch In 5 Years Has Just Come Into Focus

For a long time, the Japanese automaker Nissan has been selling only the Magnite sub-compact SUV in India. It launched the X-Trail flagship SUV, but that was not a mass-market vehicle. Thankfully, the company is now gearing up for the launch of its most important vehicle in the Indian market, the next-generation Terrano mid-size SUV. Like last time, it will be based on the upcoming new Renault Duster, and recently a test mule of this SUV was spotted testing on public roads.
Finally, after keeping it for so long, Nissan has started real-world testing of the upcoming Terrano. To make sure that the development costs are low, once again Nissan will be utilising the same platform as the Renault Duster, which will also be launched in India soon. Here are the details of the test mule that was recently spotted.
First off, let's start with the design details of the upcoming Nissan mid-size SUV, which could either be called the Terrano or its name might be changed for a refreshed approach. The test mule that was recently spotted was fully covered in dark camouflage, which managed to hide a lot of details. However, there are still plenty of elements that can be noted.
At the front, the Nissan Terrano will be getting a Patrol flagship SUV-inspired front fascia. There will be a set of sleek LED headlights with a thin LED DRL running on top, which could be part of the connected light bar in the middle. Apart from the headlights, we can note that the SUV will get a horizontal grille at the front with slats and a large Nissan logo in the middle.
Moving to the lower portion of the front bumper, it will be getting a thinner air vent followed by a large air dam in the middle of the lower part of the bumper. We can expect a skid plate at the bottom and also a set of fog lights, which might be placed slightly lower than the headlights. Overall, the front fascia looks very modern, and the boxy shape gives it an imposing appearance.
Moving to the side profile, we can note the boxy silhouette, large windows, and tall window line are all very similar to the Renault Duster new generation, which has already been launched in international markets. Other notable highlights include a set of large five-spoke alloy wheels, which look simple but utilitarian. The Terrano will also get chunky squared-off wheel arches as well.
The test mule was seen with integrated roof rails as well. Moving to the rear, the SUV will be getting a bold rear-end design, just like the front. A tall upright tailgate will be flanked by LED taillights. The test mule was also seen with a shark fin antenna, rear wiper and washer setup, and an integrated rear spoiler. This particular vehicle was seen behind a Skoda Kushaq, and it can be noted that it will be considerably larger than it and most other mid-size SUVs.
At the moment, the interior design of the upcoming Nissan Terrano has not been revealed. However, like the upcoming Duster, we can expect a large floating touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument gauge cluster, automatic climate control, along with many other creature comfort features.
Presently, there are no details of the powertrain options of the upcoming Terrano that will be sold in India. However, there are reports that suggest it could get a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol with a 48V mild-hybrid system and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol making 152 bhp and 250 Nm of torque in India. It could also get 7-speed DCT with this engine. Sadly, no diesel engine will be offered. However, there will be CNG and even strong hybrid and electric versions in the future.
