Nissan Motor India has confirmed that both engine options of the New Magnite compact SUV are fully compatible with E20 petrol, and that warranty coverage will not be affected when using the ethanol blend. The clarification comes as E20 becomes the default fuel at most petrol stations across the country, raising questions among buyers about long-term durability.

Warranty Stays Intact

The company said its 1.0-litre HR10 turbo engine has been E20-ready since August 2024, while the BR10 naturally aspirated motor achieved compliance in February 2025. All Magnite models sold after October 2024 are covered, and vehicles still under warranty will continue to enjoy protection.

This assurance adds weight to Nissan’s recent launch of a 10-year or 2 lakh kilometre extended warranty programme. Priced at about 22 paise per kilometre, it is among the longest coverage plans in the compact SUV segment. Customers can choose between several flexible packages, with coverage focusing on engine and gearbox protection in the later years.

Built to Handle the Fuel Shift

Nissan says engineering validation and calibration updates ensure that Magnite engines can run smoothly on E20. Cars produced after the compliance dates were tuned specifically for ethanol-blended petrol, rather than just being able to tolerate it.

The company points to extensive lab testing and service network feedback, noting that no significant issues have been reported with E20 use so far. This proactive approach gives it the confidence to reassure customers that warranty coverage stands firm.

India’s switch to E20 was advanced from the original 2030 deadline to 2025, putting pressure on carmakers to confirm compatibility. Some brands initially sent mixed messages, leading to confusion among owners. While the industry body SIAM has since clarified that E20 use won’t void warranties, Nissan’s direct statement provides added comfort for its customers.

Nissan has also committed to monitoring E20-related performance during routine servicing. Dealer technicians are being trained to carry out preventive checks and provide solutions if issues arise. The idea is to give buyers confidence that the transition won’t disrupt ownership.

This focus on service reflects the fact that smooth adoption of new fuel standards depends not just on technical compliance but also on keeping customers reassured.

The Magnite has been Nissan’s best-seller [and often the only offering] and a major contributor to its turnaround. Since launch in 2020, it has crossed 200,000 cumulative sales across domestic and export markets. The updated model introduced in October 2024 secured over 10,000 bookings within months.

In FY 2024-25, Nissan dispatched more than 99,000 units across India and abroad, its strongest performance in seven years. The Magnite also carries a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, further strengthening its appeal.

By confirming E20 readiness, Nissan positions itself as aligned with national goals of reducing oil imports, boosting sugarcane farmer incomes, and cutting emissions. For buyers, the bigger takeaway is peace of mind: the Magnite can handle the new fuel, warranty coverage remains safe, and support is in place should any issues arise.
