India-Made 2025 Nissan Magnite Scores 5 Stars In Global NCAP Crash Test

Crash test safety ratings of a vehicle are something that many customers have started considering as a factor before buying a car now. Nissan’s popular and only mass-market model in India, the Magnite, recently went through a crash test by Global NCAP, and the SUV passed the test with flying colours. The SUV scored a perfect 5-star rating in the test.
Global NCAP had tested the older version of the Magnite before this, and it had only scored 2 stars. Nissan decided to introduce a bunch of safety enhancements to help the SUV score more points. As per reports, the Magnite was rated five stars for adult occupant and three stars for child occupant protection. This new result is a dramatic improvement in safety from the previous model (equipped with 2 airbags as standard), which had been rated two stars for both adult and child protection - demonstrating what can be done and, critically, how quickly it can be achieved when vehicle safety is prioritised.
Nissan was not happy with the 2-star rating, and they quickly worked on the model and submitted it for a second voluntary test. In fact, the Nissan Magnite has now become the first car in the South African market under Global NCAP’s current protocols to attain the much sought-after five-star rating.
The new version of the Nissan Magnite, which is sold in South Africa and India, now comes with six airbags, ESC, enhanced pedestrian protection, improved restraint systems, and 3-point seat belts for all occupants as standard. The Nissan Magnite is a sub-4-metre segment SUV and competes with the likes of the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300 in the segment.
Both these vehicles in this segment have scored 5-star ratings in the Global NCAP crash tests. In the video, we can see that the front and side of the Magnite managed to absorb the impact pretty well. The occupants - both adult and child dummies were also safe.
Global NCAP revealed that the Nissan Magnite scored 32.31 points out of 34 for adult occupant safety and 33.64 out of 49 for child occupant safety in the test. If you compare it with the test scores of the Nexon and XUV300, there is actually something interesting.
The Nexon that is currently available on sale in India had scored 32.22 points out of 34 in adult occupant safety. This is slightly less than what Nissan has managed to score now. However, the child occupant protection score is higher in the Nexon.
Similarly, the Mahindra XUV300 - which is not on sale anymore was tested before Global NCAP updated their norms. The model tested had only 2 airbags, and even then, it managed to score 17.42 points. Mahindra, after launching the renamed XUV300 as XUV 3XO, never sent it to Global NCAP. Instead, they got it tested at Bharat NCAP, which it passed with flying colours. We are sure that if Mahindra had sent the car to Global NCAP it might have scored similar or better than the Nexon.
The Nissan Magnite is a good value-for-money sub-metre SUV for those who want a no-nonsense SUV within a budget. A detailed walkaround video of the updated Magnite is available on our YouTube channel. The Nissan Magnite, with all these safety feature enhancements, will probably become popular among buyers in India and abroad.
It is available with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder NA and a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. The NA comes with manual and AMT, while the turbo variant gets manual and CVT options.
