Nissan Magnite SUV Now Available with CNG Retrofitment Kit

Nissan Magnite is currently the only offering from the Japanese car manufacturer in India. They do have the X-Trail, but as we all know, it is not doing great in terms of sales for Nissan.
Now, in order to boost the sales of their popular SUV Magnite, Nissan has come forward with a government-approved CNG retrofitment kit. The CNG kit is fully developed, manufactured, and quality assured by Motozen (a third party) as per the country’s regulatory standards. The price of this newly introduced CNG kit for the Nissan Magnite is ₹74,999.
Mr. Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, commented:”The New Nissan Magnite has been a phenomenal product for us and has led the success story in India. With a view to meet the requirements of customers, Nissan dealers will provide an alternate fuel option in the form of a government-approved CNG retrofitment kit, which will be carried out at authorised fitment centres for customers. We are confident that this move will enhance the popular compact SUV’s value proposition and practicality.”
The CNG retrofitment kit for the Nissan Magnite by Motozen is actually offered with a component warranty. In fact, Nissan is offering a 3-year or 1 lakh km warranty on the CNG kit, which means customers who opt for this can have peace of mind. Nissan mentioned that the eco-friendly CNG kit fitment for customers will be done in a phased manner across the country.
In the first phase, Nissan customers can order the CNG kit installation via Nissan authorised dealerships in 7 states: Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, and Karnataka. It will later be expanded to other states across the country as part of Phase 2.
It should be noted that the CNG kit option is available only with the New Nissan Magnite 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a manual gearbox. The aim with the CNG kit in the NA petrol engine is, of course, fuel efficiency. The major reason why we feel Nissan has introduced an option like this is simply to push sales. With fuel prices going up, people have started looking for alternate fuel options like CNG.
Many of them go for aftermarket CNG kits, which are sometimes cheaper. However, the major issue with such kits is the quality of components and the fitment. These kits are often not installed properly, and if the kit installed is not an RTO-approved unit, then the owner will have a hard time.
According to sources, the kit being sold for the Magnite is exclusively developed for the Magnite. After installing this kit, Magnite CNG will offer a city mileage of 24 km/Kg and 30 Km/Kg on highway. Nissan has taken care of the safety part as well. It gets 7mm reinforced single casting cylinder, Auto Cut Off valve in case of CNG leakage and Fire Extinguisher included in the total cost.
For the 74,999 that the customer is paying Nissan is offering services like 3rd party warranty, insurance, RC endorsement and installation charges apart from the CNG kit itself.
With Nissan introducing an option like this, they have eliminated the risk element, as they are only offering government-approved kits. This way, Nissan can also generate additional revenue. They can also offer it across all variants rather than limiting the CNG to lower or specific trims.
The Nissan Magnite received an update last year and now comes with a revised exterior design and features. The Magnite boasts 20+ first- and best-in-segment features and 55+ safety features. It is available with two petrol engine options.
The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine generates 72 PS and 96 Nm of peak torque. It is available with manual and AMT gearbox options. The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine generates 100 PS and 152 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes with manual and CVT gearbox options. The price for the Nissan Magnite starts at ₹6.14 lakh (ex-showroom).
