Nissan Motor India has launched the new Magnite KURO Special Edition, priced from ₹8.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This blacked-out version of the compact SUV adds visual flair to the current line-up at a time when the model needs renewed attention in a highly competitive market.

Festive Season Refresh to Keep the Magnite Relevant

The KURO Special Edition arrives as a strategic update rather than a response to overwhelming demand. While the Magnite had a strong start after its launch in late 2020, recent sales trends have been steady rather than surging. With no new model launches in the pipeline until next year, this special edition helps Nissan keep its lone volume product relevant and visible in buyer conversations.

The KURO (meaning "black" in Japanese) wraps the Magnite in an all-black exterior and interior. Piano black accents on the grille, roof rails, and skid plates, blacked-out door handles, and KURO badging give it a darker, more premium look. Inside, the theme continues with a black dashboard, piano black inserts on the gear shift and steering, and updated door trims.

Standard additions like a Sable Black wireless charger and optional stealth dashcam enhance the feature list. Both the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options are available with this edition, paired with manual or CVT gearboxes.

Safety as a Selling Point

The KURO edition comes just after the Magnite received a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating. This rating is particularly significant in the sub-10 lakh SUV space, where few models offer both value pricing and credible crash safety results. The Magnite is built on the CMF-A+ platform and includes 40-plus standard safety features such as six airbags, ESC, traction control, brake assist, hill start assist, and TPMS.

The structural integrity, backed by 67 per cent high-tensile steel, gives the Magnite an edge in safety-conscious households, especially those considering budget SUVs for family use. The KURO edition inherits all these core attributes, making the cosmetic upgrades more meaningful.

A Subtle Line-Up Expansion

Apart from the KURO edition, Nissan has introduced a new Metallic Grey colour on select trims like Tekna, Tekna+ and N Connecta. This is a subtle line-up refresh to expand visual variety without extensive changes. Nissan is also offering a digital 3D configurator experience for the KURO on its website, allowing prospective buyers to explore the car interactively before purchase.

Despite limited mechanical changes, Nissan is trying to extract more life out of the Magnite platform. With new models expected only from 2026 onwards under the Renault-Nissan alliance’s CMF-B platform, special editions like the KURO help maintain some showroom buzz.

Compact SUV Segment Remains Cut-Throat

The Magnite operates in a crowded sub-4 metre SUV space, with strong contenders like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet etc, Most rivals offer frequent updates, more powertrain options, or stronger dealer networks.

While Nissan cannot match the scale or variety of its competitors, it continues to push the value-for-money angle. The KURO edition is an attempt to attract design-conscious buyers who want something distinct without moving up the price ladder.
