2 new nissan magnites coming

Currently, Nissan India's only volume seller is the recently facelifted Magnite sub-compact SUV. Now, in order to boost the sales of this popular SUV, the company is planning to launch two more iterations of the Magnite. If you are one of those people who are interested in knowing about the details of these upcoming iterations, then you have to read ahead.

Nissan Magnite CNG

First off, the company is planning to launch the CNG version of the Magnite. Recently, Renault, Nissan's strategic partner, introduced government-approved retrofit CNG kits for its popular models like the Kiger and Triber. Now, it has been reported that Nissan could be offering the same CNG kit for the Magnite as well

Recently, a Magnite was spotted with a CNG kit at a Nissan service center. Most likely, the launch will take place in the coming few months. It is expected that the Magnite CNG kit will be priced in the range of ₹75,000 to ₹79,500. Presently, the details of the fuel efficiency with this new CNG kit have not been revealed.

Once launched, the Magnite CNG will compete with popular models such as the Tata Punch iCNG, Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo, and Renault Kiger CNG. It has to be noted that the Magnite facelift will lose a lot of rear boot space, as the retrofit CNG kit will occupy space. Its rivals, like the Punch iCNG and Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo, come with factory-installed kits that are placed under the rear boot.

Nissan Magnite EV

In addition to the Magnite CNG, the company is also planning to launch the electric version of the Magnite. As per reports, the Magnite EV will be launched before 2026. What will also likely help the sales of the Magnite electric is its affordable pricing. It has been mentioned that the Magnite EV will be priced around the same as the Magnite ICE.

As for its development, the Magnite EV is being developed in collaboration with its long-term strategic partner, Renault India. It will feature Nissan's unique battery technology. Presently, the details on the electric powertrain and battery pack sizes, along with the claimed range, have not been revealed.

Nissan Magnite Sales

Presently, Nissan sells around 2,000–2,500 units of the Magnite on average every month. As for the total sales, till January of this year, the Japanese automotive giant has sold over 1,50,000 units of the Magnite in India. In addition to domestic market sales, Nissan has also exported more than 10,000 units of the left-hand-drive Magnite to international markets such as the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia-Pacific

Globally, Nissan Has Been Struggling

nissan honda merger cancelled

A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Nissan has been struggling financially and was about to merge with Honda Automotive. However, the Nissan and Honda merger has now been called off. Nissan released a statement mentioning that it was impossible for the company to meet the conditions proposed by Honda.

It was reported that Honda had proposed to Nissan a plan under which Nissan would become a subsidiary of their brand. This would have provided Honda with complete control of Nissan. However, this particular proposal was rejected by Nissan, as they were concerned about losing autonomy over their brand.

A Nissan executive stated,

We hope that the talks will not break down, but [a business merger] is tough.

Meanwhile, an official from Honda stated,

Nissan lacks a sense of urgency. We don’t think Honda can afford to negotiate with them any longer.
