Nissan Magnite More Affordable Than The Maruti Swift And Maruti Baleno: Prices Compared

Nissan India has just launched its all-new Magnite facelift in the country. This new sub-compact SUV has been launched at a very attractive price of Rs 5.99 lakh. Now, at this price point, buyers generally believe that they can only get a hatchback. However, this comparison of the Nissan Magnite with the popular Maruti Suzuki Swift and Baleno will let you know how it is better than both of them. So without any delay, let’s jump right into it.
First off, let’s talk about the pricing of the Nissan Magnite in comparison to the Maruti siblings. The Magnite has been launched with a price tag of Rs 5.99 lakh. The Swift, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 6.49 lakh, making it Rs 50,000 more expensive.
On the other hand, the Baleno, which sits above the Swift in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup, is priced at Rs 6.66 lakh. The price difference between the Magnite and Baleno is Rs 67,000. This makes the Nissan Magnite the most affordable vehicle. So if you have a budget crunch, then you should opt for the new 2024 Magnite.
Now, keeping price aside, there are a few other important reasons why you should buy the newly launched Magnite. The first of these reasons is higher ground clearance. The Magnite is a sub-compact SUV that comes with a 205mm ground clearance.
The Swift, on the other hand, comes with 163mm ground clearance, while the Baleno is offered with 170mm of clearance. So, given the poor conditions of roads in India, the Magnite’s high ground clearance offers it a big advantage.
As we all know, the Nissan Magnite competes in the sub-compact SUV segment. And presently, the entire rage in the country is for this segment. So, for the price of a hatchback, if you can get a sub-compact SUV, then it is a huge win. The Magnite offers a taller body, and its design is also very aggressive.
It looks very sporty, and the newly revised grille and bumpers add to its overall SUV appeal. Additionally, drivers in India prefer the commanding view of the road that an SUV can provide. Hence, it plays as a huge advantage for the Magnite. The Swift and Baleno, on the other hand, do not provide any of these advantages.
Another very important aspect for Indian buyers is the street presence of a vehicle. So this is, again, where the Magnite excels. This sub-compact SUV has much bigger dimensions than the Swift and Baleno. The Magnite is 134mm and 4mm longer than the Swift and Baleno, respectively.
It is also wider by 23mm and 13mm than the Swift and Baleno. The Magnite’s height is also 52mm (Swift) and 72mm (Baleno) more than the Maruti siblings. Lastly, in terms of wheelbase, the Magnite is 50mm longer than the Swift.
Now, although the Magnite is a better option amongst the three cars, one of the reasons that could make a buyer hesitate is the smaller dealer network. Nissan India currently does not have as expansive a dealership network as Maruti Suzuki. So, the long-term ownership costs and convenience for buyers from smaller towns and rural areas could be an issue.
Another minor drawback of the Magnite is its smaller engine. It comes powered by a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which makes 71 bhp and 96 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Swift comes with the new 1.2-litre Z12E three-cylinder petrol engine, which makes 80 bhp and 111 Nm of torque.
Also, the Baleno comes equipped with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine, which makes 88 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. So in terms of power, the Magnite feels a little short.
Lastly, one crucial factor that is very important for Indian buyers is fuel efficiency. The Magnite offers a decent 19.4 kmpl mileage. However, the Swift offers an impressive 24.8 kmpl. Meanwhile, the Baleno offers 22.35 kmpl. So if mileage is something very important to you, the Magnite could disappoint you slightly. However, overall, the Magnite is a very value-for-money purchase at the moment.
