Nissan as a brand has not been very active in the Indian market for quite some time. They recently resumed their CBU business in India with the introduction of the X-Trail. However, the X-Trail is not a product that everyone can afford. They also launched the facelifted version of their SUV, Magnite, in the market. The Magnite has been in the market for almost four years, and this is the first time the brand has released a major update for it. A quick walkaround video of the 2024 Nissan Magnite is available on our YouTube channel. Nissan has plans to introduce more products in India as part of their new brand strategy. Here are three new SUVs that Nissan plans to bring to India in the next couple of years.

C-SUV (5-Seater)

The first product that Nissan is planning to bring to India is a C-segment SUV. It will be a 5-seater SUV that will compete with the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in the segment. It will be based on a heavily localized CMF-B platform.

The SUV is expected to be Nissan’s version of the Renault Duster, which is scheduled to be launched in India next year. We currently have no information available about the engine and transmission options. However, the SUV is expected to be offered with a petrol engine like the Duster.

7-Seater C-SUV

After the launch of the 5-seater C-SUV, Nissan will also introduce a 7-seater version of the 5-seater SUV. It will be based on the same platform as the above-mentioned SUV. In terms of exterior design, both SUVs are expected to look similar, with minor cosmetic changes to differentiate them from each other.

It will be Nissan’s version of the 7-seater Renault Duster. The engine and transmission are expected to remain the same as the 5-seater version. The SUV will compete with the likes of the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, Kia Carens, Hyundai Alcazar, and so on. Hopefully, Nissan will be able to price both these SUVs in a competitive manner, unlike the recently launched Nissan X-Trail.

Electric Vehicle

Nissan, during their recent press meet, also confirmed their entry into the electric vehicle space. The manufacturer told us that they would be introducing an affordable EV for the Indian market. With the rise in popularity of SUVs, there is a possibility that Nissan’s first electric vehicle might actually be an electric version of their entry-level SUV, the Nissan Magnite.

We have no confirmation about the upcoming electric vehicle. However, there are rumors from various media websites, including Autocar Professional, that suggest Nissan might have changed their mind about the entry-level EV, as it was not viable for business. Instead of the entry-level EV, they are now looking at a B-segment EV above 4 meters, to challenge the likes of Maruti Suzuki’s eVX EV as well as the Hyundai Creta EV. If Nissan can manage to launch an entry-level EV, it would help them widen their customer base in India.
