The news has it that Nissan is evaluating the all-new Patrol for India. The globally acclaimed SUV could launch here sometime in 2026. It would mostly come as CBUs and be priced on the more expensive side. The SUV recently got a generational update with the new-gen being called the Y63. Even before its official India debut, Salman Khan has got two Patrols in his India garage. We’ll talk about those later in this article…

The Y63 Nissan Patrol is currently available in Left Hand Drive markets alone. The RHD versions will arrive later this year. Rgere us string demand in markets like Australia, South Africa and Japan. Nissan has already revealed their plans to aggressively expand its Indian portfolio in the forthcoming time. It plans to introduce several new and facelifted models, with a keen focus on the SUV body style. The Y63 Patrol could then be placed as the flagship. It will likely help in improving Nissan’s brand image and desirability.

The most recent launch from the carmaker was the X-Trail, which failed to live up to expectations with its hefty price tag and it being a comparatively older model. The SUV is brought to India as CBU, and the same resulted in its prohibitive pricing.

The Patrol is a legend in the SUV world. It commands equal respect as the Toyota Land Cruiser, if not more in some markets. Being a global product, it is used by the affluent, powerful and public figures in many countries. It is a capable offroader and offers commendable on-road comfort as well.

Internationally, the new-gen Patrol comes with two engine options- a naturally aspirated, 3.8-litre V6 petrol and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 petrol. There are no petrol V8 or diesel offered, unlike its predecessor. If launched in India, the Petrol could get one of these V6 engines.

Previously, Nissan India had considered the Y62 Patrol for a possible India launch. It was in 2020, and plans were already live to introduce the Magnite, and the manufacturer needed a boost to its brand image here. Nissan even conducted a bunch of customer clinics for the SUV before deciding to trash the plan altogether.

All six generations of the Patrol are known for their rugged, indestructible nature. The model is also preferred by VIPs for their high-security commutes. It is also noted for its excellent off-road abilities. If launched, it will compete with the likes of Toyota LC300 and the upcoming Prado. These would heat things up in XXL-sized 4×4 SUV space. We don’t expect it to come any cheap, due to its import-route. The price could be above Rs 1 crore, ex-showroom.

Salman Khan Already Owns Two Patrols In India

The Nissan Patrol is yet to reach India, but Bhaijaan already owns two! Both these SUVs are bullet-proof and were imported to meet the escalated security needs of the actor. The second Patrol (Y63) was bought from Dubvai earlier this month, and shipped immediately to the Indian soil. This should have cost him a ton of money.

The actor has heightened security following the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique- a close friend of him. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the murder, and this has stirred up things in both the political and entertainment circles. Further, the gang issued a fresh threat to Salman. They reportedly asked for Rs 5 Crore from the actor to end their enmity with the gang, and said that failing to do this would result in him having to ‘face a fate worse than that of Siddique’.

In light of this, Salman Khan immediately bought a brand-new Nissan Patrol in Dubai and imported it to India. He would use this for his commutes to and from the sets of Big Boss, and for other travel needs. The Bishnoi gang’s grudge against the actor stems from the Blackbuck poaching case. The Bishnoi community considers Blackbucks sacred. Enraged by the poaching issue, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang issued several threats against the actor, making him boost his security levels over the years.

Salman had imported the first Patrol (finished in White) from the UAE, following death threats against him and his father, from the same gang. The vehicle is a previous-generation model powered by a 5.6-liter V8 petrol engine that produces 405hp and 560Nm. It is mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox. His most recent purchase, however is a Y63 Patrol wearing Black paint.
