Nitin Gadkari Claims MP Roads Will Surpass American Roads Within Two Years
The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, never fails to make headlines. In almost every project inauguration ceremony, the minister is heard promising that the road infrastructure of India will become better than other developed countries. Most recently, Gadkari made the same announcement, and this time it was in Madhya Pradesh. He stated that the road network in Madhya Pradesh will become better than America.
Big announcements by Gadkari for MP
Nitin Gadkari, while inaugurating and laying the foundation of 10 NH projects worth Rs 5,800 crore in Badnawar, Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh, stated, “Within the next two years, Madhya Pradesh’s national highway road network will become even better than that of America.” He also added that there will be no complaints, and his commitments will not go to waste.
The Union Minister, during the event, inaugurated and laid the foundations of 10 NH projects worth Rs 5,800 crore. He added that 5 projects worth Rs 3,502 crore have been inaugurated. These include the likes of the Badnawar-Ujjain 4-lane highway under the Bharatmala Project.
Additionally, 5 projects worth Rs 2,462 crore had their foundation stones laid. He added that a total of 328 km will be added to MP’s NH network. At the same event, Gadkari highlighted that infrastructure work worth Rs 3 lakh crore will be completed in Madhya Pradesh within one year. He promised the creation of industrial clusters and employment through better connectivity.
Previous bold claims of Gadkari
As mentioned above, this is not the first time that Nitin Gadkari has made huge claims and announcements at a public event. On the contrary, he has done this same thing on numerous occasions, and most of the time, he has missed the deadlines set by himself. Just two months ago, at the Times Drive Auto Summit 2025, he said Indian road infrastructure would surpass U.S. standards in two years.
Gadkari even went on to say that he previously claimed roads would match the U.S., but then stated that they’ll be better. If we go back a little further, in 2022, while inaugurating the first phase of the Zuari bridge, he stated that India’s roads would be better than the U.S. by the end of 2024. However, as we all know, 2024 has already passed, and Indian road infrastructure is nowhere near the U.S. infrastructure.
Gadkari contradicted himself
Once again, we take you back to October 2024. At the time of the India Road Conference, the Union Minister changed his tone and stated that Indian roads will be better than the U.S. by 2047. However, the much more realistic timeline of 23 years was once again contradicted in March of this year, when he again claimed that the roads would become better than the U.S. within two years.
Other Bold Claims
In addition to the road infrastructure claims, the Union Minister has not backed off from making bold claims on the automotive industry as well. He stated India will become the largest automobile industry in the world within 5 years. Currently, the Indian automotive industry is valued at Rs 22 trillion, meanwhile, the U.S.A. is at Rs 78 trillion and China is at Rs 47 trillion. So it doesn't take a genius to make out that this too is just a bold claim, which will not be feasible.
