Pune Porsche Crash: Teenager completes 15 day ‘RTO Course’

Remember the car crash in Pune where an underage driver crashed a Porsche into two IT professionals on a bike, killing them. While reviewing the case, the Juvenile Justice Board granted him bail on May 19 under the condition that he undergo a 15-day training with the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO). According to reports that have now surfaced online, the teenager has completed the mandatory training.
The training focused on traffic rules and regulations. The RTO officials in Pune confirmed that the teenager underwent the training, but they have not shared any further information, considering the nature of the case. According to various media reports, the teenager completed the training and submitted the required 300-word essay, which has sparked controversy.
Speaking to the media, Archana Gaikwad, Regional Transport Officer, Pune RTO, said, “We have completed indoor and outdoor training sessions for the juvenile as per the court order. During the training, he was educated about various traffic rules and regulations, do’s and don’ts, and other things.”
The incident took place in the early hours of May 19, 2024. A Porsche Taycan electric sports car driven by a minor under the influence of alcohol in Pune crashed into a motorcycle. The victims, Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, were traveling on their two-wheeler when they were hit by the Porsche driven by the drunk minor.
Several dramas unfolded after the crash. The Juvenile Justice Board’s decision to simply grant bail to the teenager by asking him to write an essay as punishment attracted a lot of criticism. It even became a topic for many social media memes and funny videos. After the accident, the father and grandfather of the teenager also came forward with a claim that it was not their son but their driver who was behind the steering wheel when the accident happened.
However, this claim was later proven wrong by the driver himself, who said that he did not drive the car. A CCTV video of the car accident also surfaced online, showing the same Porsche passing through a narrow road at a very high speed. The car that caused the accident was being driven on the roads of Pune without a registration number plate, as the owner had not paid the registration fee to the RTO.
Drunk driving is a major problem not just in India but around the world. We would never recommend anyone drive under the influence of alcohol, and there are several reasons for that. You may feel too confident about your driving skills after drinking, but never trust that feeling.
That is not your brain but the alcohol speaking. When you are drunk, you usually have no control over the vehicle you are operating. Intoxicated individuals often have compromised senses and slower response times to road obstacles, posing a risk not only to themselves but also to other road users.
In simple terms, the response time to obstacles is delayed due to the alcohol in your blood, which often leads to accidents. In this case, the person driving the car was not only drunk but also a minor. He was driving an expensive and powerful Porsche sports car.
Driving such cars requires experience, and if you lose control of such a vehicle, regaining it is often challenging. Driving is a responsibility, which is why driving licenses are issued only at the age of 18 in India.
