French automaker Renault is set to introduce two important models in the coming months. The company has confirmed that the Kwid hatchback will receive a facelift, while the all-new generation Duster SUV will make its India debut. These launches are expected to help Renault strengthen its position across the entry-level hatchback and compact SUV markets.

All-New Duster

The Duster will return to India in an all-new generation avatar. This is Renault’s biggest upcoming launch and not just a refresh of the older model. The SUV has been undergoing testing across the country and carries a completely new design language. Highlights include a fresh exterior with dual-tone alloy wheels, new bumpers, Y-shaped LED daytime running lights and tail lamps, a restyled grille, and a more rugged overall stance.

Inside, the cabin has been reworked with Y-shaped accents on the air conditioning vents, a three-spoke steering wheel, and a modern floating touchscreen infotainment unit. A fully digital driver’s display will replace the earlier analogue set-up, and the centre console has been redesigned to improve usability and storage.

Globally, the new Duster has been well received in markets such as Europe, where it continues to perform strongly. In India, it will re-enter a segment that has grown highly competitive, with rivals including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and MG Astor. Renault has also confirmed that the SUV will be available in both two-row and three-row versions, while a Nissan-badged sibling is in development. This platform sharing is aimed at improving cost efficiencies and expanding reach.

Kwid Facelift

At the budget end of the line-up, the Kwid will receive a facelift. While details of the changes remain limited, the update comes at a time when the small car segment is under pressure from stricter regulations and higher costs. Despite this, the Kwid has remained an important contributor to Renault’s volumes.

Compared to competitors like the Maruti Alto, the Kwid offers a more stylish and modern look, which has helped it maintain visibility in the market. The facelift is expected to build on this strength, ensuring that the car continues to appeal to first-time buyers who want an affordable yet distinctive hatchback.

Both the new Duster and the refreshed Kwid will be built at Renault’s Chennai facility, which serves as the hub for its Indian production and exports. Depending on demand, the updated models may also find their way to overseas markets.

The strategy reflects Renault’s focus on leveraging existing platforms while upgrading design and technology. By offering significant updates at both the entry level and in the competitive SUV space, the company is looking to widen its appeal without introducing entirely new product lines.

The new Duster’s launch is expected to generate strong interest, given the model’s past popularity in India and its continuing success in Europe. Its combination of ruggedness, space, and value pricing has historically attracted customers, and the new version aims to add the technology and refinement that today’s buyers expect.

The Kwid facelift, though less dramatic, is equally important in sustaining Renault’s position in the small car market. With its design advantage over the Alto K10 and its established presence, the Kwid remains quite relevant.
