Renault India Launches Factory-Fitted CNG Kits For Kwid, Triber and Kiger

Renault's India portfolio consists of three models- Kwid, Triber and Kiger. To diversify its customer base, the French carmaker has now launched CNG versions of all three models. The catch, however, is that unlike many other CNG cars, the Kwid, Triber and Kiger get factory CNG retrofits. Official CNG kits can be added to most variants of these vehicles.
First of all, these are government-approved and come with high safety standards. Renault says that these would offer the customer peace of mind and happy ownership. They even feature a three-year warranty. In addition to being more cost-effective, CNG powertrains are greener as well.
Mr. Venkatram M., Managing Director and Country CEO of Renault India, expressed the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. He stated,
Our commitment to innovation and sustainability drives us to continuously improve our offerings. The introduction of the government-approved CNG retrofitment kit across all models is a testament to our dedication to providing eco-friendly and smart solutions for our customers. We believe this initiative will make Renault cars even more accessible and practical, solidifying our position in India.
The newly introduced CNG retrofit kit is available across all Renault models except the automatic and Turbo variants. The Kiger gets two engine options, one of which is a turbocharged petrol. And for the automatic transmissions, both AMT and CVT can be had on various models.
The CNG kits are installed through Renault’s preferred vendors using homologated components that meet all safety and performance standards. Renault has taken special care to ensure that every component in the kit is standardized and designed for optimal performance.
Renault India has ensured that the addition of a CNG kit does not impact the driving performance of its vehicles. The kits have been rigorously tested and validated to maintain the same level of driving experience that the customers expect.
The carmaker plans to introduce the CNG retro fitment kit in a phased manner. Initially, these will be available in five key states—Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra—which collectively contribute to 65% of the country's CNG car market. In the coming months, the availability will extend across the country, covering 100% of Renault’s market.
Renault has ensured competitive pricing for the CNG retrofit kit, making it an affordable and practical choice for customers looking for a cost-effective fuel alternative. The all-inclusive prices of these kits are as follows:
Previously, a top Renault official had hinted that the carmaker would soon launch a CNG version of the Triber. The rumour that surfaced in September last year anticipated the launch to commence in December.
We are developing alternative fuel based vehicles that can run on CNG or battery. The former would be rolled out by the year end,
said CEO and MD Venkatram Mamillapalle
The latest development has CNG kits available for all models simultaneously, instead of rolling it out on the Triber first and then expanding to others.
Renault plans to launch several new models in the upcoming years and regain its lost glory in the Indian market. The planned lineup includes both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles and an EV. 5,300 crore rupees have reportedly been allocated for the same.
