Renault has taken wraps off its much-awaited C-segment SUV- the Boreal. It will play a key role in the brand's future international game plan. The French carmaker is expected to launch this vehicle in India sometime next year. Let's now take a quick image tour of the Boreal.

At the event in Brazil, Renault showcased the SUV in a dual-tone colourway of (a shade of ) Cyan and Black. The entire colour palette is yet to be revealed. It will likley have more dual-tone options

Exterior Design

To start with, the Boreal has a bold stance. The exterior styling is spot-on. There is enough bulk to make people notice, and clean lines and surfacing to keep things aesthetic. There is a strong design resemblance to the Dacia Bigster, but the Boreal is the better-looking of the two. This makes sense as Dacia is Renault's budget-focussed sub-brand, and follows a much toned down (read 'cheaper') design philosophy.

The Boreal's front fascia looks attractive with the large, uniquely styled grille section and sleek LED headlamps. There is a sense of sharpness to the headlamp design. The LED DRLs are equally sharp. There is a gloss Black trim that runs along the width of the vehicle, connecting the headlamps.

The front bumper houses a large air dam with horizontal slats and fog lamps on either side. There is a Satin Silver skid plat at the front. We can also see the ADAS suite's radar mounted on the front bumper.

Look at the Boreal from the sides and we will instantly notice the large alloy wheels, likely 19-inch units. The design of these resembles those of the global Bigster. They are indeed attention magnets.

The profile also have neatly drawn lines and smooth panels. The front door handles are regular pull-type units. The rear door handles sit on the C-pillar. The side-view mirrors are finished in Black and there is a Satin Silver trim that runs along the window line and a broader portion of it near the rear quarter glass. The quarter glass itself has a unique shape. The SUV also comes with a sharkfin antenna.

There is a clear European touch to the rear design. The tailgate has smooth panels and an integrated roof spoiler. The bumper gets sharp lines and a prominent skid plate. The LED tail lamps are sleek and notably different from the ones found on the Bigster.

In short, the exterior design looks modern and attractive. It has a commanding stance and proper road presence. Renault has kept the rugged body cladding and squarish wheel arches safe on the Boreal as well. These, if you remember, were a characteristic feature of the original Duster's design.

Interior Design

In India, the Boreal will be brought in as a seven-seater. The vehicle that has now been revealed, seems to be a five-seater. The cabin has a dark theme to it. The layout is clean, minimalistic and practical. The Boreal will come with a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel and have a short, stubby shifter.

No sea of buttons can be seen. Whatever present, have been aligned in an organized manner. There is a large central touchscreen. A lot of vehicle functions seem to be integrated into it. The Android-based screen will have support for OTT apps including Amazon Prime Video. The Boreal will also feature a Harman Kardon audio system. The touchscreen will also support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The SUV will also come with dual-zone climate control and ventilated front seats. There will also be rear air vents. A 7-inch HD display will likely function as the driver display, and will also support map projection. Other expected features are a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, electric parking brake (EPB) and Level 2 ADAS.

Another detail that we can see from the pictures shared by Renault is the drive mode selector. The Boreal will have five drive modes- Eco, Comfort, Sport, Smart, and Perso. Check out our previous story to know more about the expected powertrain details of this SUV.
