Six Safest Affordable Cars You Can Buy In India: 3 Mahindras, 2 Tatas, 1 Skoda

When it comes to safe cars, a few years ago, people did not trust Indian car brands and thought that foreign car brands had much better safety. However, things have changed now, and out of the six safest cars according to Bharat NCAP, five belong to the popular Indian automakers Mahindra Automotive and Tata Motors. What’s also surprising is that the most affordable car from the Czech automaker Skoda has also managed to gain a very high safety rating. Here are the details.

Mahindra XEV 9E

Currently, the safest car in India, according to Bharat NCAP, is the newly launched Mahindra XEV 9E born electric SUV. This coupe SUV has managed to score the maximum attainable points of 32 out of 32 in the adult occupant protection tests. As for the child occupant protection tests, the XEV 9E managed to score a respectable 45 out of 49 points. BNCAP stated that protection for all dummies inside the car was good. Overall, it has scored a perfect 5-star safety rating.

Mahindra BE 6

In addition to the XEV 9E, the BE 6, which is based on the same INGLO electric skateboard architecture, has also managed to score a perfect 5-star safety rating. It scored an impressive 31.97 out of 32 in adult occupant protection tests.

The BE 6 managed to score 45 out of 49 points in the child occupant protection tests. The BE 6 comes equipped with seven airbags and Level 2 ADAS, which includes a self-parking function, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, a 360-degree camera, and a blind spot monitoring system.

Tata Punch.ev

The third vehicle on this list is from Tata Motors – the Punch.ev. The EV version of this super popular micro-SUV has scored an impressive 31.46 points out of 32 in the adult occupant protection tests. Also, it has managed to score 45/49 points in the child occupant protection tests, giving it an overall score of 5 stars in BNCAP tests.

As for safety features, the Tata Punch.ev comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program (ESP), and hill hold assist. Additionally, it also gets a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat anchors as well.

Mahindra Thar Roxx

The Mahindra Thar Roxx has also scored a perfect 5-star safety rating. However, what’s even more impressive is that it has achieved the highest score among petrol and diesel cars sold in India. It has scored 31.09 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 points in the child occupant protection tests.

In terms of safety tech, the Thar Roxx comes loaded with six airbags, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, electronic stability control (ESC), and seat belt reminders. Additionally, the top-spec variant gets Level 2 ADAS. The autonomous features include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and a 360-degree surround-view system with a blind view monitor.

Skoda Kylaq

The recently launched subcompact SUV Kylaq from Skoda has become the fifth safest vehicle in India, according to BNCAP. In the recently held crash tests, the Kylaq managed to score 30.88/32 in the adult occupant protection tests. Also, in the child occupant protection tests, the Skoda Kylaq was able to score 45/49 points.

This impressive SUV from Skoda comes equipped with six airbags as standard, electronic stability control, ABS and EBD, a traction control system, hill hold assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and much more.

Tata Curvv.ev

Another 5-star safety-rated vehicle from Tata Motors is the Curvv.ev coupe SUV. In the Bharat NCAP crash test, this SUV managed to secure 30.81 points out of 32 in adult occupant safety and 44.83 out of 49 in child occupant safety, earning a total 5-star rating. The Curvv.ev is offered with two battery pack options: a 45 kWh battery pack and a 55 kWh battery pack.

Safety features of the Curvv.ev coupe SUV include six airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and camera, all-wheel disc brakes, a reverse parking camera, and an Electric Parking Brake (EPB) with an auto-hold function as standard. It also comes with Level 2 ADAS, ESC, a blind spot monitor, automatic headlamps and defogger, and rain-sensing wipers.
