The final leg of the Samruddhi Expressway which connects Mumbai and Nagpur was recently inaugurated by the government. The expressway is now fully operational and this new project has reduced the travel time from Mumbai to Nagpur by 10 hours. Just like some of the other ongoing projects, there are issues with the newly inaugurated expressway as well. Recently a video of a concrete slab from a flyover on Samruddhi expressway fell off and people are netizens are questioning the quality of the work carried out in this Rs 55,000 crore project.

The video has been shared by Maharashtra Times on their YouTube channel. The video report shows a section of the highway that passes through Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. As per the report, a big chunk of concrete on this newly inaugurated expressway fell off. As seen in the video, it is actually a flyover with an old highway or road below it.

The concrete slab or chunk of the highway fell on the road. It is not clear how exactly this happened. The iron rods that are usually used to strengthen or reinforce the structure is visible. The upper and the lower layer of the concrete is missing as all of it fell down.

It is not clear if any vehicle passing through the expressway caused this or did the section fall off on its own. Whatever may have been the reason, such a incident on a newly constructed road is actually not a good sight. The video of the incident has gone viral and people have been raising questions about the quality of the work.

samruddhi expressway concrete falls

This is not the first time we have come across an incident like this on our roads. In fact, just last month, a section of National Highway 66 caved in Malappuram district of Kerala. Detailed investigation revealed quality issues and the contractor or the company who was responsible for the work was asked to fix the road at their own cost.

Coming to the Samruddhi expressway, it is not clear if the authorities have started an investigation in this issue or not. Only the metal bars are left and you can clearly see the road below from the gap. The concrete is missing on the middle lane of the expressway and the authorities have completely blocked the section to avoid any accidents.

The comment section under this video reports are not looking good. Most of them are blaming the government both center and state and they are also talking about the quality issues. In the past, we have seen Union Minister Nitin Gadkari come forward and take necessary actions however, in this case we are yet to hear anything from the concerned authorities and department.

The Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway which is called as the Samruddhi Expressway is 701 km long and it is now fully operational. The government recently inaugurated the final 76 km stretch of the expressway. With this new expressway being operational, the travel time from Mumbai to Nagpur has come down from 18 hours to 8 hours.
