The commercial vehicle sector in India has seen a lot of innovations lately. There are truck manufacturers like Volvo, BharatBenz, and even Tata that are currently working on commercial trucks and trailers that are making a difference in the lives of drivers and the common man. SATRAC, a leading trailer and truck body manufacturer, has now come up with a very innovative solution for the Indian commercial transport industry. SATRAC has made India’s first road train or double-trailer system for commercial trucks.

The video has been shared by MotorIndia on their YouTube channel. The video talks about the National Logistics Policy that aims at improving logistics efficiency and reducing costs to enhance India’s global competitiveness. SATRAC worked on this aim and came up with the solution of double trailers to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

We see the road train or the double-trailer truck in the video here. SATRAC works on a variety of high-quality heavy commercial vehicles, and most of their work is designed specifically for Indian terrain. The double trailer is also one such innovation.

For a country like India, where the national highways and expressway networks are expanding and improving every year, connectivity will also improve, and goods will be able to move from point A to B faster. With the rise in the number of vehicles on our roads, traffic jams will soon be a bigger problem and will cause delays in transit. This would also cost transportation companies more money in fuel, time, and wages.

The double-trailer system aims to resolve this, as the company claims that this innovation is designed to cut logistics costs, enhance safety, and double transport efficiency.

The double-trailer configuration is suitable for higher payloads, and it comes with safety features like a 360-degree camera, CAN router tech for advanced monitoring, steerable axles, and synchronized braking. The trailers also have blinking side marker lamps and beacon lamps at the rear for better visibility at night. The best part about this whole package is that it is completely built in India.

The synchronized braking system in the trailers will ensure that both trailers slow down at the same time and prevent the tail from swinging out and causing accidents. Trailers like these are very common in other countries. In fact, in countries like Australia, there are road trains with three to four trailers hauling heavy goods and construction material through long straight highways.

In a country like India, these double-trailer trucks are more suitable for highways. In many Indian cities, this trailer setup would be a reason for traffic jams, as the roads are not that wide. It will also give drivers of these trailers more stress than relief in such conditions.

However, this double-trailer setup is a great solution for companies that have operations and hubs in different parts of the country. The truck driver can drop one of the trailers at one location and, without waiting for it to get unloaded, continue the journey to the next destination. This way, he saves both time and money for the company.
