Skoda Kylaq Introductory Prices Extended Till April 30th

Skoda has announced an extension of the introductory pricing period for the Kylaq SUV until April 30, 2025. Originally launched in November last year at a special starting price of Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), this extension comes as good news for prospective buyers. The Kylaq has garnered significant interest, with over 15,000 bookings currently pending, all of which the manufacturer plans to clear by the end of May 2025.
Kylaq Variants
Skoda has positioned the Kylaq aggressively against rivals such as the Tata Nexon (Rs 8 lakh+), Maruti Suzuki Brezza (Rs 8.35 lakh+), Hyundai Venue (Rs 7.95 lakh+), and Kia Sonet (Rs 7.99 lakh+). This pricing strategy makes European engineering more accessible to Indian buyers.
The SUV is available in four primary variants:
Variant Manual Transmission Automatic Transmission
Classic Rs 7.89 Lakh Not Available
Signature Rs 9.59 Lakh Rs 10.59 Lakh
Signature Plus Rs 11.40 Lakh Rs 12.40 Lakh
Prestige Rs 13.35 Lakh Rs 14.40 Lakh
On-road prices vary across major Indian cities, with Mumbai starting at Rs 9.11 lakh, Bengaluru at Rs 9.35 lakh, and Chennai at Rs 9.27 lakh for the base variant. The top-end variant can cost up to Rs 17.72 lakh on-road in Chennai.
To enhance affordability, Skoda is offering a three-year maintenance package for the first 33,000 buyers, reducing running costs to Rs 0.24 per km. Additionally, a six-year anti-corrosion warranty has been introduced to ease long-term ownership concerns.
Powertrains and Performance
The Kylaq comes equipped with a responsive 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that delivers 114 bhp at 5000-5500 rpm and 178 Nm of peak torque. Power is channelled to the front wheels through either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The engine, already proven in other Skoda and Volkswagen models, offers a good balance of performance and efficiency.
Fuel efficiency is one of the highlights of the Kylaq, with ARAI-certified mileage figures of:
• Manual transmission: 19.68 kmpl
• Automatic transmission: 19.05 kmpl
However, real-world figures from owners suggest about 9-10 kmpl in city driving and 12-13 kmpl on highways, which is reasonable for its segment.
Design and Styling: Smaller Kushaq
The Kylaq bears Skoda's distinctive design language while introducing some unique elements. It features a split headlamp setup with LED Daytime Running Lights positioned above LED projector headlamps. The prominent Skoda grille gives the front fascia an imposing look, making the vehicle appear larger than its actual dimensions.
Available in seven colours—Olive Gold, Tornado Red, Carbon Steel, Brilliant Silver, Candy White, Lava Blue, and Deep Pearl Black—the Kylaq offers ample choices for buyers with different aesthetic preferences.
Good Interior Comfort and Features
Despite its compact footprint, the Kylaq offers decent space for occupants. The front seats provide good comfort with ventilation function—particularly useful in India's hot climate. Rear space accommodates two adults comfortably, though fitting three might be a squeeze. Headroom is generous, and all three rear seats come with adjustable headrests.
Notable interior features include:
• 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system
• Ventilated front seats
• Rear AC vents
• Type-C USB ports for rear passengers
• Minimalist dashboard design with quality materials
The boot offers 360 litres of capacity up to the parcel tray, expandable to 446 litres when measured to the roof. Folding the rear seats increases this to an impressive 1,265 litres, making it practical for weekend getaways and shopping trips.
Safest Compact SUV in India
Safety is a significant highlight of the Kylaq, which has secured a five-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. The SUV scored an impressive 30.88 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 45 points out of 49 for child protection.
All variants come equipped with six airbags as standard, along with essential safety features. The solid build quality, often a hallmark of Skoda vehicles, contributes to the overall safety package and has been praised by early owners.
A Fun-to-Drive Skoda
Owner reviews suggest that the Kylaq delivers an engaging driving experience, particularly impressive for its segment. The car feels planted on the road with minimal body roll around corners. The suspension is well-tuned to handle Indian road conditions, soaking up bumps and irregularities without compromising on stability.
The 1.0-litre TSI engine provides adequate power for both city commutes and highway cruising. While there is some turbo lag in the second gear, once past this threshold, the car responds eagerly to throttle inputs. The gearbox is well-matched to the engine, with the automatic transmission offering smooth shifts.
Early Ownership Experience
The high number of bookings—over 10,000 within the first 10 days of launch—indicates strong market acceptance. Early owners have reported satisfaction with build quality, handling characteristics, and overall refinement. The air conditioning system has been described as effective, addressing concerns that had been raised with earlier Skoda models.
Skoda aims to ramp up production to clear the existing backlog of orders, with deliveries of the first 33,000 units scheduled to begin in May. The company has already increased production capacity twice since the Kylaq's launch.
Kylaq A Good Buy?
With the introductory prices now valid until April 30, 2025, this represents a good opportunity for potential buyers to book the Kylaq at the current rates. Given the significant booking numbers and production constraints, interested customers should consider finalising their purchase decisions before the introductory offer ends.
The automatic variants offer convenience for city driving, while the manual versions provide a more engaging experience and slightly better fuel efficiency. The mid-range Signature variant offers a good balance of features and value, though those seeking luxury touches might prefer the Prestige trim with its additional amenities.
As Skoda works to clear the existing order backlog by May, new bookings made now would likely see deliveries in the summer months, making this an opportune time to consider this five-star safety-rated compact SUV for your next purchase.
