Kylaq Propels Skoda India to Record-Breaking Sales in March 2025

Skoda Auto India has achieved a historic milestone by recording its highest-ever monthly sales of 7,422 units in March 2025. This achievement coincides with the company’s 25th anniversary in the Indian market and underscores the impact of its latest offering, the Kylaq, a sub-4-metre compact SUV. The Kylaq has played a pivotal role in reshaping Skoda’s presence in India’s competitive automotive market.
The Kylaq marks Skoda’s entry into India’s booming sub-4-metre SUV segment, which accounts for nearly 30% of passenger vehicle sales. These SUVs have gained immense popularity for their affordability, versatility, and suitability for Indian roads. With the Kylaq, Skoda aims to shift from a niche premium brand to a mainstream, high-volume player.
Built on Skoda’s MQB-A0-IN platform, which has already proven successful with the Kushaq and Slavia, the Kylaq benefits from high localisation—up to 98%. This has allowed Skoda to keep production costs low and offer competitive pricing. Manufactured at the company’s Chakan plant in Pune, the Kylaq benefits from an expanded annual production capacity of 2,55,000 units.
Launched in January 2025 following its unveiling in November 2024, the Kylaq has been a runaway success. It has already garnered over 15,000 bookings, prompting Skoda to ramp up production to ensure timely deliveries by May 2025. The introductory price of ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom) has been extended until April to maintain sales momentum.
The Kylaq’s stellar performance was a key contributor to Skoda’s record-breaking March sales, alongside sustained demand for the Slavia sedan and Kushaq SUV. Petr Janeba, Brand Director of Skoda Auto India, highlighted that this milestone reflects the brand’s commitment to making European technology more accessible to Indian buyers.
The Kylaq blends European engineering with features tailored for Indian consumers. Its Modern Solid design language gives it a bold, muscular stance, complemented by LED headlights and a ground clearance of 189mm—ideal for Indian road conditions. Inside, it offers ventilated six-way electric seats, a 10-inch infotainment system, and best-in-segment boot space of 446 litres.
Safety is a standout aspect, with the Kylaq boasting six airbags as standard and over 25 active and passive safety features. It has secured a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, making it one of the safest choices in its category.
Under the hood, the Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine, delivering 115hp and 178Nm of torque. Available with both manual and automatic transmissions, the powertrain balances performance with tax benefits under India’s sub-4-metre rules.
Skoda has positioned the Kylaq aggressively against rivals such as the Tata Nexon (₹8 lakh+), Maruti Suzuki Brezza (₹8.35 lakh+), Hyundai Venue (₹7.95 lakh+), and Kia Sonet (₹7.99 lakh+). This pricing strategy makes European engineering more accessible to Indian buyers.
To enhance affordability, Skoda is offering a three-year maintenance package for the first 33,000 buyers, reducing running costs to ₹0.24 per km. Additionally, a six-year anti-corrosion warranty has been introduced to ease long-term ownership concerns.
As Skoda celebrates 25 years in India, the Kylaq’s success marks a turning point for the company. By combining affordability with premium European engineering and high localisation, Skoda has positioned itself as a formidable contender in India’s highly competitive compact SUV segment.
With SUVs now accounting for nearly half of all passenger vehicle sales in India, the Kylaq’s performance underscores how automakers must adapt to evolving consumer preferences while delivering value-driven products tailored for Indian buyers.
