The upcoming Skoda Kylaq is good-looking, feature-packed and safe! The sub-compact SUV recently scored a five-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. The Kylaq scored 5 stars in both adult and child safety evaluations. Skoda India has now released a new TVC celebrating the results.

The video starts by showing a White Skoda Kylaq being prepared for the test. The camera and impact body being readied, dummies being set inside the car, and computers being prepared for the tests can all be seen in the video. A detailed look at the dummies is also included in the video.

It then shows the side impact test. This involves a moving body crashing into the Kylaq. The video shows the impact it causes to the vehicle and its occupants. Next up, we see the frontal impact tests and how it deforms the front end of the compact SUV.

To note here is the fact that the airbags deployed on time. The Kylaq comes with 6 airbags (front, side and curtain). The impact of the crash remained mostly limited to the front end alone. Minimal impact was passed on to the cabin and its occupants. The tests rated the occupant compartment as stable.

The Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) evaluated the top-spec Kylaq Prestige variant that comes with a manual gearbox. It scored 30.88 out of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP). This made the Kylaq the best-performing sub-four-metre SUV so far in BNCAP tests.

The tested variant was rated ‘Good’ in the side pole impact test. In the side movable deformable barrier test, the Kylaq scored 15.84 out of 16! Good protection to the head and lower back area was offered. The upper back area had an adequate rating.

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Kylaq scored 15.04 out of 16 points. The driver’s head, neck and right leg region enjoyed good protection. Safety was adequate for the chest area. The front passenger had good protection for the legs, head, neck, and chest areas.

The Kylaq excelled in offering child protection as well. It comes with ISOFIX mounts and scored full marks in the dynamic test (24/24) and CRS installation assessment (12/12). These ensure proper child occupant protection. The vehicle assessment score here is 9 out of 13. Both the 18-month-old and the 3-year-old child dummies were tested. Rearward-facing child seats were used for these.
