Base-Spec Skoda Kylaq Classic vs Top-End Prestige Trim: What You Get For 6.6 Lakh Extra [Video]

Skoda launched its newest sub-compact SUV- the Kylaq in India in December last year. There are four trims on offer- Classic, Signature, Signature+, and Prestige. The base-spec Classic has an ex-showroom price of ₹7.89 lakh. The range-topping variant Prestige AT costs 14.4 lakh (ex-showroom). This means that the top-spec is 6.6 lakh more expensive than the entry-level variant. So, what changes between these? What more features and tech do you get for the price premium? A recent video by The Car Show tries to explain the same...
Before we go into the details, here's why this comparison makes sense... Pricing is a key catch on the Kylaq. Many people would opt for the Classic variant due to its competitive price point. Going by the general market winds, another major share of buyers will likely choose the top-spec. Thus it makes sense to explain what all differs between these two variants...
At first glance, the design at large remains identical on both variants. However, on closer examination, we'll notice that the Prestige variant gets LED headlamps while the Classic makes do with normal halogen headlamps.
The range-topping variant gets 17-inch alloy wheels with 205/55 R17 tyres. The Classic variant, on the other hand, gets 16-inch Steel wheels with 205/60 R26 tyres. These get stylish wheel covers as well.
At the rear, the top-spec Kylaq gets a wiper, washer and defogger- all of which are not available on the base variant. Even though the design of the tail lamps remains the same on both variants, the inner elements are better on the top-spec. The Prestige variant gets a Silver rear skid plate and reverse parking camera while the Classic has only two rear parking sensors on offer.
There is no difference in boot capacity between variants- 446 L. However, the Prestige trim gets a rear parcel tray, boot lamps and a 15-inch spare wheel. Plus, the rear seat gets 60:40 split folding function for added convenience. The base variant gets a single bench at the rear. There is no boot lamp or rear parcel tray either. It gets the same 15-inch spare wheel.
The Classic variant feels very basic on the inside. It doesn't get speakers, rear reading lamps, automatic IRVM or a music system. It gets power windows and the cabin has several fabric trims. The feature list gets a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, manual air conditioning system, rear AC vents, and analogue dials with a digital MID. There is a front arm rest. The rear seat on the other hand misses out on a hand rest, but has three headrests. It also comes with powered ORVMs, and a 12V socket for the people in front.
The top-spec Prestige variant gets a neatly laid out cabin and a lot of features. It comes with the likes of an automatic AC, large infotainment screen, ventilated and powered front seats, leatherette upholstery, a wireless smartphone charger, a single-pane sunroof, and an auto-dimming IRVM. The upholstery here is leatherette and there is a strong air of premiumness inside.
The Kylaq is underpinned by the same platform as the Kushaq- MQB A0 IN. It also borrows its 1.0L TSI engine from the larger SUV. It produces 115 bhp and 178 Nm. It can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in just 10.5 seconds. The Kylaq is thus the quickest sub-compact SUV in the segment. It is also one of the fastest sub-compact SUVs, and can clock upto 188 kmph.
