Skoda Kylaq Compact SUV: What It Could Look Like

Skoda has officially announced that they are working on a small SUV for India, based on the MQB A0 IN platform. In a more recent instance, they also revealed the name of the upcoming product. It will be called Skoda Kylaq upon launch. Several test mules of the Kylaq have been spotted testing in various cities and more teasers and details are expected to be revealed in the lead-up to the launch..
Renowned automotive artist SRK Designs has now released fresh renders of what the Kylaq could look like. A video posted on their official YouTube channel shows SRK’s imagination of the Skoda SUV. The Kylaq boasts clean proportions and a sturdy stance in this render. Considering the production form will be a sub-4m SUV slotting in as a Brezza-rival, the proportions on this design are brilliant.
The front fascia gets the signature Skoda grille and large Black panels on the bumper which house the fog lamps and DRLs. The headlamp looks sleek and attractive. Skid plates and honeycomb mesh can be seen on the front bumper. Large 5 dual spoke alloy wheels go well with the overall proportions. Body-coloured door handles can be seen on the sides. There are roof rails as well. The designer has kept all signature Skoda lines and creases safe, rendering a more realistic appeal to his art.
The Kylaq will be heavily localized and manufactured in India, at the Skoda-Volkswagen facility in Chakan, near Pune. The vehicle will make its official debut in 2025. Skoda also plans to export the Kylaq from India.
It is expected to be powered by Skoda’s 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol engine, seen on the Kushaq and Slavia. This engine is also shared with Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus. In the Kylaq, however, the powerplant is likely to produce 120 PS and 170 Nm, and be offered in both 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic transmissions. This will obviously be a monocoque SUV with FWD layout.
Traditional Skoda qualities—such as solid build quality, well-balanced ride and handling, feature-rich interiors, and strong engine performance—are expected to be kept safe on the Kylaq. There are also rumors that the SUV will have an electric variant in the future. In fact, the European version of the Kylaq, named Epiq, is an electric crossover and is expected to be officially unveiled later this year.
The Kylaq is a crucial product for Skoda in India for several reasons. First, it will help the company maximize the utilization of its factory capacity. Second, it is expected to be a significant volume driver, potentially doubling Skoda’s sales in the country. Lastly, the SUV will take advantage of India’s reputation as a low-cost, high-quality manufacturing hub for exports and make a lasting global impression.
Given the intense competition in the sub-4 meter SUV segment, Skoda will need to bring substantial improvements to the Kylaq in order to differentiate itself from established players and provide value to the end customer. Skoda’s success with Kylaq could greatly influence the company’s future in India.
Reports suggest that a badge-engineered version of the Kylaq is likely to be sold under the Volkswagen brand in the not-so-distant future, although the details of this collaboration remain unconfirmed as we speak.
