The Skoda Kylaq has become the latest entrant to the 5-star safety rating club. This latest sub-compact SUV from the Czech automaker has managed to score a perfect 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP. What’s even more surprising is that it is even safer than its already 5-star-rated siblings, the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia. Now you may be wondering how this is possible. Well, here is how the Kylaq is safer than its siblings.

Skoda Kylaq: Bharat NCAP Ratings

First off, let’s dive into the details of the Skoda Kylaq’s safety ratings. The Bharat New Car Assessment Program has given the Kylaq a score of 30.88/32 in the Adult Occupant Protection tests. It has stated that the frontal offset barrier test showed the SUV offered good protection for most body regions except for the driver’s chest and lower leg.

It added that the Kylaq also provided good protection for the head, abdomen, and pelvis in the side movable barrier test. Lastly, the side pole impact crash test revealed that the SUV managed to provide good protection to all the body regions of the adult occupants inside the vehicle.

As for the Child Occupant Protection tests, the Skoda Kylaq managed to score 45/49 points. BNCAP highlighted that in the dynamic tests, the SUV scored a perfect 24/24 points for protection in frontal and side impacts using child restraint systems (CRS). Also, it scored 12/12 points for ISOFIX usability and secure seating. The vehicle assessment score of the Kylaq was 9/13.

How is Kylaq safer than its siblings Kushaq and Slavia?

Now, when we compare the scores of the newly launched and tested Skoda Kylaq with its elder SUV sibling, the Kushaq, and its sedan sibling, Slavia, the Global NCAP test score of the Kushaq and Slavia for adult occupant protection tests when adjusted for Bharat NCAP test is 28.1/32 (original – 29.71/34).

So, when compared to the score of Kylaq, which is 30.88/32, the Kylaq beats both of its siblings. Also, when we compare the child occupant protection tests, the Kushaq and Slavia both scored 42/49 points. Meanwhile, the newly tested Kylaq has managed to score 45/49 points.

Now, it has managed to beat its siblings by scoring better points in child safety dynamics and CRS installation scores. Apart from these, the Kylaq has been rated to have a stable occupant compartment and footwell. The Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, on the other hand, both scored slightly lower in the side pole impact tests.

How are Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP ratings different?

To help you better understand, it has to be noted that the Global NCAP tests for adult occupant protection have a maximum score of 34. Meanwhile, the Bharat NCAP tests have a maximum score of 32. The difference of these 2 points is due to the inclusion of seat belt reminders. Bharat NCAP does not mandate the inclusion of seat belt reminders. Child occupant protection tests in both Global and Bharat NCAP have the same 49 points.
