Skoda Kylaq Is Safest Car In the Segment: Scores 5 Stars In Bharat NCAP Crash Test [Video]

Skoda officially launched their first-ever sub-4-meter SUV Kylaq in the Indian market last year. The official bookings for the SUV have begun, and it looks like all those customers who have booked this sub-4-meter SUV are not going to be disappointed. Bharat NCAP recently released a new video in which we see the Skoda Kylaq undergoing the crash test. The sub-4-meter SUV not only passed the crash test with 5 stars but also became the safest car in the segment.
The video has been shared by Bharat NCAP on their official YouTube channel. In the video, we see the Kylaq undergo an offset deformable barrier frontal impact test at 64 kmph, a side impact test at 50 kmph, and a pole side impact test at 29 kmph. In all these crash tests, the SUV performed exceptionally well.
The Skoda Kylaq scored 30.88 points out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection and 45 points out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection. In the video, we see that the front end of the SUV absorbed the impact effectively. The impact did not affect the overall structure of the SUV and ensured the safety of the occupants—or the dummies, in this case.
In both front and side impact tests, the SUV performed well, and the airbags deployed on time. The A-pillar remained intact, and the overall structure looks stable.
The Skoda Kylaq is the latest entrant into the sub-4-meter SUV space. It is a highly competitive segment ruled by the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300. The 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash test is likely to give the Kylaq an advantage in the segment.
Other cars in the segment, like the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300, have also scored a 5-star rating, but their scores are slightly lower than the Skoda Kylaq. The Nexon scored 29.41 in Adult Occupant Protection and 43.83 in Child Occupant Protection. The XUV300 scored 29.36 points for Adult Occupant Protection, while the child safety score is 44.83.
As mentioned above, the Skoda Kylaq is the first sub-4-meter SUV from the Czech car manufacturer in India. It is based on the same MQB A0 IN platform as the Kylaq and Slavia. The entry-level Skoda gets a design derived from the bigger Skoda SUVs. It features sleek LED DRLs, split headlamps, Skoda’s signature butterfly grille with vertical slats, and more.
It wouldn’t be wrong to call it a baby Kushaq. As this is a heavily competitive segment, Skoda has tried to offer several premium features to attract customers. The SUV gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a two-spoke steering wheel, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a sunroof, keyless entry, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, front seat ventilation, powered front seats, leatherette upholstery, and more.
All the variants come with 6 airbags as a standard feature, along with ABS, parking sensors, and more. The Skoda Kylaq is available with only one engine option. It is powered by a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that generates 115 Bhp and 178 Nm of peak torque. The SUV is available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Prices for the Skoda Kylaq start at Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 14.40 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries for the Skoda Kylaq will start from January 27, 2025.
