The Kylaq is Skoda’s latest product for the Indian market. We drove it in Goa recently, and our review and opinion will be out on January 25, 2025. We recently posted a poll on our Instagram handle that revealed interesting findings. In a reel featuring Skoda Kylaq vs Kushaq visual comparison, we asked our followers and viewers to pick between Kushaq and Kylaq. We got over 1100 responses. More people voted for the Kylaq, indicating strong customer interest in the product.
Over 60 per cent of responders preferred to own a Kylaq over the Kushaq. 40% voted for the Kushaq. People seem to love the compact size and powertrain of the vehicle. In Skoda’s Indian portfolio, the Kylaq is below the Kushaq. The carmaker has revealed that the starting price of the Kylaq would be 7.89 Lakh, ex-showroom.
Bookings opened on December 2, 2024, and the Kylaq has received 10,000 orders so far. The base-spec Classic variant of Skoda’s smallest SUV seems to have sold out. The first batch of deliveries will be completed by May 2025. The carmaker aims to produce 33,000 units in the first batch.
To start with, both SUVs are based on the same platform- MQB-A0-IN. This platform has a high degree of localisation gone into it. The Kylaq and Kushaq, however, differ in their dimensions, equipment levels and powertrain options.
In dimensions, the Kylaq is 3995 mm long, 1783 mm wide and 1619 mm tall. The Kushaq on the other hand, is 4225 mm in length, 1760 in width, and 1612 mm in height. Talking about the wheelbase, the Kylaq has 2556 mm while the Kushaq has 2651 mm. The ground clearance of Kylaq is 189 mm and that of the Kushaq is 188 mm. The Kylaq has a boot capacity of 360L, while the Kushaq has 385 L.
Both vehicles get the same Skoda family look. However, the Kylaq features the ‘Modern Solid’ design language. Both the Kylaq and Kushaq ride on 17-inch wheels. The lower variants feature 16-inch wheels.
The Skoda Kushaq comes with two turbocharged petrol engines- 1.0L TSI and 1.5 TSI. The smaller engine is a 3-cylinder unit while the 1.5L unit has 4 cylinders. The 1.0L TSI engine produces 115hp and 178Nm. Two transmissions are available: a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
The Kylaq on the other hand, gets just the smaller engine- 1.0L TSI turbocharged petrol. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual and 6AT transmissions. This engine produces 115hp and 178Nm on the Kylaq as well. The Kylaq, however, is 38 kilograms lighter than Kushaq. This will bring about a significant difference in power-to-weight ratio between the two SUVs. It, however, misses out on the powerful 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 150hp and 250Nm.
Looking at the prices, the Kylaq starts at a lower price point, when compared to the Kushaq. The Kushaq starts at 10.89 lakh, ex-showroom. The Kylaq has a startling starting price of 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom)- cheaper by 3 lakh. The top-spec Kylaq costs 14.40 Lakh, ex-sh while the top variant of Kushaq costs 18.79 Lakh. The Kylaq qualifies for the sub-4 metre tax benefits, the larger SUV doesn’t.
Skoda India will start commencing the test drives of the Kylaq soon. The deliveries are known to start from January 27, 2025, from 272 Skoda dealerships across India. Monthly production volumes of the Kylaq will be ramped up to 7000 by March 2025. The carmaker also plans to add 350 dealerships this year.
