After several teaser videos and spy images, Tata finally launched the all-new Altroz Racer in the market. This is the most powerful iteration of the premium hatchback. The Altroz Racer will directly compete with the likes of the Hyundai i20 N Line. The price for the all-new Tata Altroz Racer starts at Rs 9.49 lakh, ex-showroom.

Altroz Racer launched

Commenting on the launch of the Tata Altroz Racer, Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said, “Strengthening the Altroz lineup, we are excited to launch the Altroz Racer – a car that is engineered to bring excitement to one’s everyday drive. Its high power output, combined with segment-leading features and a tech-first approach, makes the Racer desirable for the new-gen customers who are connected, fashion-forward, and want to drive a car that makes them stand out. With its performance-driven DNA and race car-inspired look, we are confident that it will be the perfect companion that will make you #RacePastTheRoutine.”

Variant & feature list

As mentioned in our previous articles, the Altroz Racer will be offered in three color options: Atomic Orange, Avenue White, and Pure Grey. All three shades will be offered with a contrasting black roof and bonnet along with racing stripes. Other than this new paint scheme, the exterior design of the car remains the same.

Price list

It gets a slightly revised grille along with a Racer badge on the fenders. On the inside, the theme of the cabin has been changed. It gets darker shade interiors with racing stripes in it. The seats also have Racer branding on them. The main change inside the cabin is the new 10.25-inch touchscreen. This is the same unit that we saw in other Tata models. The new and smoother UI gives it a premium look.

Tata is also offering features like ventilated seats, which is a segment-first feature. There are highlighted trims around the AC vents and gear lever too. The car continues to get the 16-inch alloy wheels, which are the same as the regular Altroz.

Ventilated seats

Tata is offering the Altroz Racer in R1, R2, and R3 variants. The R1 variant gets 16-inch alloy wheels, 6 airbags, leatherette seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and many more features. Features like the electric sunroof, digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera, connected car features, and front ventilated seats are limited to the R2 and R3 variants.

The R1 variant is priced at Rs 9.49 lakh, ex-showroom. The R2 variant is priced at Rs 10.49 lakh, ex-showroom, and the top-end R3 is priced at Rs 10.99 lakh, ex-showroom. Coming to the engine, the Tata Altroz Racer uses the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged engine that is offered with the iTurbo. However, for the Racer version, it is tuned differently.

When compared to the Hyundai i20 N Line, Altroz Racer is much more affordable. Price for i20 N Line starts at Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 12.52 lakh. Hyundai however does offer automatic transmission with the N Line which is missing in the Altroz Racer. Tata Altroz has also proved itself when it comes to build quality as it is the only premium hatchback in the segment to score 5 star rating at Global NCAP crash test.

This engine now generates 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak torque. It is the same tune as seen in the Nexon petrol. This engine is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox only with the Altroz Racer.

Updated Altroz variants

Other than the Altroz Racer, Tata Motors has also introduced two new variants (XZ LUX and XZ+S LUX) and upgraded one variant (XZ+OS) in its Altroz range. These two new additional variants will be available in a choice of petrol manual, petrol DCA, diesel, and CNG powertrains.
