Tata Avinya Steering Wheel Patented But Will The Luxury EV Be Made In India?

Tata showcased the Avinya X concept at the Auto Expo earlier this year. The concept is an updated version of what Tata showcased a few years ago. The newer version is closer to the production model, and it looks like Tata is extensively working on this premium project. Tata has recently registered the design patent for the steering wheel, which will be used in its upcoming electric vehicle. The image of the steering design has now leaked online.
The Tata Avinya X will be getting a new steering wheel, as it is being portrayed as a premium product or lineup that will sit above the regular Tata EVs. It is a two-spoke unit but is completely different from what we have seen in current Tata cars.
It is not a piano black two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo. Instead, it is a leather-wrapped steering wheel that is not exactly round. The two spokes on the steering wheel have provisions for touch-based buttons to control the MID and infotainment system, along with other functions. Like most modern Tata cars, the Avinya’s production model will also feature Level 2 ADAS technology. The horn pad on the Avinya is likely to be covered in a soft-touch material with Avinya branding on it. Yes, you won’t be seeing the Tata logo on Avinya products at all.
The steering unit is likely to be finished in a dual-tone design to achieve a premium look. Since its showcase, several digitally rendered images of the Avinya X have surfaced, revealing the EV’s interior design as well. The steering wheel design patented by Tata recently is similar to the one seen on the concept model.
The dashboard incorporates the “T” element, which runs across the entire dashboard. Additionally, there is a floating-type large touchscreen infotainment system on the center console. The screen resembles those spotted on Range Rover SUVs. Behind the steering wheel, there is a sleek-looking instrument cluster designed to seamlessly integrate with the dashboard.
The exterior of the Avinya X concept looks more like a premium SUV or crossover and it even resembles the Range Rovers from some angles.
Tata has now registered the design of the steering wheel, and we can clearly see the Avinya branding on it. This indicates that Tata is serious about the Avinya and plans to launch the brand in the market.
That said, there is still no clarity on what exactly the Avinya lineup will look like. Based on the concept, it appears that Tata will launch a luxury electric crossover SUV that will sit above its regular product lineup. The Avinya concept was first showcased at the 2022 Auto Expo, and the latest version is completely different from it.
The production version of the Avinya X is expected to come with both AWD and RWD options. The electric SUV is anticipated to offer a driving range of 500 km or more. Tata’s upcoming premium SUV is expected to launch in the market sometime in 2026
