The upcoming Tata Curvv coupe SUV is one of the hottest topics of the Indian automotive scene. Multiple details such as battery pack and features about the Curvv EV are already confirmed. However, we did not have any details about the ICE (petrol and diesel) version of the car till date. The brand has recently confirmed that they have made a new engine which will debut in the Curvv petrol. Now, let’s talk about this engine and Curvv ICE in depth.

The brand has official confirmed that the Tata Curvv will be launched with an all new turbo charged direct injection (TGDi) petrol engine. This engine was earlier showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 and the brand has dubbed this engine as Hyperion.

The Curvv will be the first car by Tata which will use this engine. However, we can expect some other small cars by the brand to be powered by this new engine.

Now, let’s discuss about power figures power figures. This new TGDi engine comes with a cubic capacity of 1198. The three cylinder unit can deliver a power output of 125 PS at 5000 RPM and torque output of 225 Nm between 1700 and 3500 RPM. In contrast, the 1.2 litre three cylinder petrol engine that powers the Nexon gives out about 118 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque. This translates to a power increase of about 7 PS and additional torque of 55 Nm.

This newly designed engine is crafted entirely from aluminum and incorporates advanced technologies such as variable valve timing and a variable oil pump. It also features an integrated exhaust manifold within the cylinder head. Additionally, it comes equipped with a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger, which Tata asserts will enhance torque at lower RPMs, resulting in improved acceleration.

Tata Motors is claiming great refinement and improved fuel efficiency with this engine, all of which is lacking in the Nexon’s petrol unit. It is only after the launch when we will find out if this claim is true or not.

Along with the Curvv petrol, Tata motors will also launch this Coupe SUV in an EV and diesel variation, to provide the buyers with all the options. As per sources, the diesel engine will be borrowed from the Nexon which is powered by a 1.5 litre four cylinder block that produces 114 PS of power and 260 Nm of torque.

Furthermore, the Curvv EV will come with two battery pack options: a smaller battery pack with lesser range and a larger battery pack which will offer more range. The long range version will feature a 55.5 kWh battery with a driving range of up to 550 km per charge. The smaller battery pack is likely to be the 40.5 kWh unit from the Nexon Long Range.

The automaker will reveal the prices of the Curvv on 7th of August. Sources suggest that the Curvv ICE can be priced from Rs. 12 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh and the Curvv EV can be priced between Rs. 16 lakh to Rs. 22 lakh.
