Is The Tata Curvv A Maruti Brezza Rival Or A Hyundai Creta Rival: We Explain!

Recently, Tata Motors unveiled its highly anticipated Curvv and Curvv EV Coupe SUVs. Now, all of the enthusiasts and experts know about the segment in which this Coupe SUV will compete. However, many car buyers are still confused about which cars in the market the Curvv competes with. Does it rival the Maruti Brezza or the Hyundai Creta? To answer this, here is a detailed explanation that aims to clarify where the Curvv stands in the competitive SUV market.
First off, let’s talk about the Tata Curvv’s competition in terms of design. As mentioned, the Tata Curvv is a brand-new and most unique offering from the company. At the moment, there are no budget coupe SUVs in the Indian car market.
However, the interesting thing is that the French carmaker Citroen is also working on its very own coupe SUV. It is called the Citroen Basalt and it will be launched on the same day as the Tata Curvv on August 7. Following its launch, there will be two coupe SUVs in the budget segment in India.
In terms of size, the Tata Curvv will measure 4308 mm in length, 1810 mm in width, and 1630 mm in height. This means that it will not compete with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the other sub-compact SUVs which all measure under 4m in length.
This leaves the Tata Curvv in competition with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and a bunch of other mid-size SUVs. All of these cars are over 4.2m in length.
Now coming to the powertrain-wise competition, the Tata Curvv ICE variant will be offered with two engine options. The first will be Tata’s new 1.2-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine. This engine will produce around 125 PS and 225 Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the other engine option will be a 1.5-litre diesel engine. This motor will deliver 115 PS and 260 Nm, similar to the Tata Nexon’s diesel engine. In comparison, the Maruti Brezza comes equipped with a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that produces 103 PS and 138 Nm of torque.
This means that it will not be competing with the Brezza and the likes of the other sub-compact SUVs. Now coming to the powertrains of the Hyundai Creta. It comes with multiple powertrain options, including a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine generating 140 PS and 242 Nm.
The Creta also offers a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 115 PS and 250 Nm. This suggests that the Creta is a very direct competitor of the upcoming Curvv.
Tata will be offering the Curvv with a ton of premium features. The list will include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, and advanced safety features like Level-2 ADAS. It will also get ventilated and powered front seats, a 360-degree camera, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold.
All of these features are currently seen on the popular mid-size SUVs in the country. Hence, this confirms that the Tata Curvv will be competing in the compact SUV segment and not the sub-compact SUV. Also, in the Tata SUV lineup, it will sit above the Nexon and below the Harrier.
