Tata Motors has added a sixth model to its EV lineup- the Harrier.EV. Tata's much-awaited premium electric SUV has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 21.49 lakh. This applies to the base variant with 238PS on tap. Prices of the rest of the range (including the meaty QWD-equipped top-spec) haven't been revealed yet. There are three personas available- Adventure, Fearless and Empowered. Tata is offering lifetime warranty on the Harrier.EV- industry's strongest warranty indeed! Bookings will start in July 2, 2025. The carmaker will even organize 'Quad Days' program on June 13 and 14, to let prospective buyers experience the EV in detail.

The vehicle will face competition from BYD Atto 3, Mahindra XEV 9e, Mahindra BE 6 and others. Its competitive price tag should help in giving it an edge over these.

Tata Harrier EV: Design

Tata Motors has showcased the Harrier.EV on multiple occasions, including a display at the Auto Expo 2025. It has now become the carmaker's new EV flagship.

The all-electric harrier resembles the diesel counterpart in its overall design. Most of the bodywork, panels and lines remain the same as the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) SUV. The only differentiating elements will be a blanked-out front grille, new front and rear bumpers, new aero-efficient alloy wheels, and an improved lighting arrangement that comes with welcome and goodbye animations. The bold and upright stance is kept intact. The colour palette consists of four shades, and the Stealth edition which was previously showcased at the Auto Expo, has also gone on sale.

Interior Design And Features

The EV gets a revised interior colourway- a pleasing combination of Grey and White. The layout is the same as the ICE Harrier. The feature list includes a 14.5-inch central touchscreen by Harman powered by Samsung Neo QLED, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, Premium JBL Audio with Dolby Atmos and performance speakers, dual-zone climate control with voice assist, 540 degree surround view, ventilated seats, powered tailgate, level 2 ADAS, digital rearview mirror, smartphone-based key fob, remote parking and terrain modes. There is also support for Over-the-air updates and the EV comes equipped with connected car tech. The carmaker has even given it the 'Summon mode'- a feature that allows limited vehicle movement with the key fob.

Specifications: Power, Platform, Battery And Motors

The all-electric Harrier is underpinned by the new-age, second-generation Acti.EV+ platform. It comes with a multi-link rear suspension (which Tata calls 'Ultra Glide')- a significant upgrade over the diesel Harrier's torsion beam setup. The EV also offers  Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging. These allow it to power electronic devices or other electric vehicles if needed. The carmaker offers two battery pack choices-65 kWh and 75 kWh, the latter will find a place on the QWD variant. Talking of charging, 250km worth of range can be replenished in just 15 minutes. 20-80 percent charging takes less than 25 minutes.

Tata Motors has given the top-spec EV an all-wheel drive (AWD) setup that employs two electric motors (these are induction motors, not permanent magnet synchronous motors)- something that the manufacturer calls 'QWD'. This powertrain has an output of 369 bhp and 500 Nm. Tata claims it to have a 0–100 kph time of 6.3 seconds.

The Harrier.EV's (larger) battery pack is claimed to deliver a real-world range of over 500 km per charge. It thus becomes a long range EV which you can buy at a relatively affordable price.

Harrier.EV Is A Capable Off Roader!

Interestingly, the QWD on Harrier.EV enhances its off-road abilities. The manufacturer demonstrated the same in its TV commercial which showed a professional off-road driver taking it to the top of Elephant Rock, a 3937ft tall mountain in Kerala. The EV is seen doing an insane climb and off-road action in the film.

There is a dedicated 'Off-Road' mode, engaging which would activate the QWD. It further has sub-modes like 'Rock Crawl', 'Mud Ruts', Custom and 'Sand', which would tweak the torque distribution and vehicle response to suit unique terrain and traction requirements.

Further enhancing its off-road prowess, the Harrier.EV comes equipped with a 'Transparent Mode'- Tata's version of the Land Rover Defender's 'ClearSight GroundView'. It uses a camera mounted on the undercarriage to show the underlying terrain to the driver. The vehicle further uses augmented reality (AR) tech to project the wheels on the terrain it is driving through.

The approach, departure and break over angles of this vehicle are 25.3, 26.4 and 16.6 degrees respectively. Tata claims the grade-ability to be over 50 percent!

Harrier.EV Is Significant For Tata Motors...

Tata has reshaped the mass-market EV space with products like the Tiago.EV, Tigor.EV, Punch.EV, Nexon.EV and Curvv.EV. The newly launched Harrier.EV falls into the more premium, aspirational segment of electric vehicles. We don't expect it to be a volume seller. But it could mark Tata's presence in a segment that's currently dominated by players like Mahindra and BYD.
